I am looking to find out which force has the worst record, the reason for this, is that I am having a ballache of getting the information from my local force who are delaying all letters and information.

If you can help without being stupid with your answers it would be appreciated

There was a huge media campaign in May or June this year about how different forces matched the national percentage for Domestic Violence (think it was 5.6%). I think it was backed by Women's Aid. You might get some joy there.

Failing that each force should have the statistics on their websites.

You ask about family issues and mention domestic violence.

Have you heard of a CDtoP? its a complainant declines to prosecute or in lay-mans terms, retracts the statement.

The problem with DV cases is that the complainant wants rid of the aggressor at the time of the offence, I know you will be aware that a vast majority of complainants retract the statement and take back the aggressor and you will probably be aware of a number of DV statistics regarding how many times a complainant suffers at the hands of an aggressor before making a complaint.

Its hardly the police's fault if a CDtoP is made, and it is becoming more prevalent for the CPS to prosecute against the complainants wishes if the aggressor is regularly coming to police attention for same or similar offences.

I issue summons' on people who refuse to come to court, but even then some fail to attend, and a DV case generally would not result in a complainant who has retracted being arrested on summons (the courts see it as them being punished instead of the perpetrator).

If you want to find out about Domestic Violence levels and prosecutions, a good place to start would be with the DV Co-ordinators in your own town and ask them to get you the info you require.
I don't think any particular force is worse than any other.

Hampshire, from my previous experience as with all domestic issue's there are always two side's to any argument, but as we have seen in the past the male always comes off second best, even when the female has been proven to have had lied in court, yet still the law falls in favour of the female. Please don't get me wrong there are females out there that do need protecting from agressive & violent partners & quite rightly they should have the protection of the law. But as with all Police forces they should take a course in being Pro-active as to being a force that is Re-active, & above all they must at all times remember one important thing is that they are there to up-hold the law & must remain impartial they represent the law & must remain within it's bounderies & not as in some cases give their own personals views on any Domestic issue's.

I don't know which force has the worst record , but I think that very little is done by the police to deal with domestic violence and more should be done.

Most people here will only give their accounts of which Force is worst. Probably the best thing to do is ask the Home Office, telling them you want this info under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. If it's something they can disclose under this act, and I don't see why they couldn't give you the answer to this question, then they have to.

I've not looked at the site in any depth at all, but it might be worth looking at www.foi.gov.uk. Good luck.
