Many people will be saying its caused by having to pee - which is nothing but a myth.
Fact is: The "morning surprise" vanishes after being awake for a while - even if guys dont take a pss.
So if it were caused by the bladder being full it would continue and also happen during the day when the bladder was full - and it doesnt happen because of a full bladder during daytime!

So in fact its caused by the amount of REM-Phases early in the morning while sleeping - and there is also proof, that females awake with similar symptoms (e.g. being wet) but theres not been so much reporting over it because its less noticeable than a morning woody.

has nothing to do with sex at all. it is a normal reaction for a male to gain an erection when first waking up due to the pressure built up for the need for urination. A man will normally fight the urge subconsciously by dry humping the bed or fondling himself during sleep. Many may lie and tell their women it is because they were dreaming of them but this is so not true. Some that claim not to be able to maintain an erection but often get what is normally referred to morning wood and saying it is just because they have to urinate. men who can not maintain an erection will often have problems holding his urge to urinate and often wet his bed. If your not able to maintain an erection the pressure to urinate will not alone cause an erection.

The morning errection is because as we sleep our bladders keep working and our strotum muscles hold back the urine....In which causes the muscles to tighten and results in a errection(bonner)......
I hope this helps some...

This is very normal! Most healthy men wake up in the morning with an erection. Men have several erections a night as part of their sleep cycle. Many times they wake up and find they are still erect.

No one really knows for sure. Some doctors claim that it is caused by needing to pee, but I think that is just coincidence. It has certainly happened to me when I didn't need to pee.

It's just a natural thing that happens. Enjoy it.

I used to get boners in the morning all the time; but then I decided to reprogram it so that it only "stood tall" on the Holy Sabbath.

When we wake up, our heart starts working hard all of a sudden, so a lot of blood rushes into the penis, causing an erection (and, I might add, a lot of sensitivity!).

When a man is asleep and needs to pee, his brain misinterprets the sensation as being vaguely sexual, so he gets an erection.

Well, for a girl in a relationship, it is nice to me, knowing that he dreams about me at night and is happy to wake up next to me.
