Only if you mean that primitive man invented religion to explain things in nature and life he didn't understand. Which also exxplains religions are not really for this time anymore.

I personally believe that the temporal nature of life limits our ability to understand the true nature of reality, hence the purpose of religion may be to reconcile our minds, spirits, and hearts with a larger, unfathomable truth.
