I say that ceramic flat irons are better.....but In my opinion....I agree with your friend because a flat iron...can double as a curler....if you wanted to flip your hair...it's in the technique that you do it....ask your friend to show you how to flat irons her hair...I bought mine at Sally's for a little of nothing...and that thing gets HOT...I have it on the lowest setting..but after washing your hair and wrapping it and sittin under the dryer..and flat ironing my hair...I flat iron/curl it on Sunday..and I've got body all week..and that's with putting a scarf on every night....ALSO....A BIGGIE is to the the right protectant spray....find one with oils in it...I like Silk Effects.....guaranteed silky, shiny,, bouncy hair...

Yes, its ok for African Americans to use flat irons or curling irons, but in moderation. If you want volume, try a roller wrap. Set your hair on curlers, let it dry and then wrap it. The result is great. Best volume with a curling/flat iron: blow it out and then use the thermal devise of your choice.

Curling iron and flat iron, don't give you volume. If you just have naturally thin hair there is nothing that you can do about it. Don't follow these commercials about a particular shampoo being used to volumize, because it does not work.

The flat iron seems to be best for volume than regular curling iron.

you can use flat irons and curling irons, the flat iron is better for straitening of course, but a cruling iron is going to give you more body, the best to do on african american hair would be to flat iron it first and the use the curling iron for the sleekest results
