When she showed up on my door at midnight, she was big and had hard lumps and I thought she was pregnant. Now she is eating and thinner, but still sometimes I think I feel lumps, like kittens. This cat is only about 10 months old I would think. How to know if she is pregnant?

The first sign that your cat is preganant is if her nipples become enlarged and really obvios to see. they are usually quite small and hidden by hair.

Well, it can be many things. I've seen cats blow up blimp size and be pregnant, then have had a cat be thin as a rail and have babies.

If her nippes are showing and are not so much puffy, but enlarged (rather than hidden under hair) that's a good sign.

As long as she's eating, she'll be ok. Just make sure she has PLENTY of water. Even 10 month old cats can get pregnant, but the survival rate of the kittens may not be good. My (rail) cat was young and had 2 litters that died before her 3rd litter survived...she was just too thin.

Look at her when she sits down, if she looks like a teardrop from behind she's probably pregnant. But your best bet is to take her to a vet, or maybe get a stethascope (sp) and see if you can hear any hearbeats or feel any movement in the belly. But be gentle!

You will notice a significant weight gain in your cat, like in the abdominal area. Weight gain doesn’t appear until about the fifth week or so of the pregnancy. You’ll also notice your cat may have morning sickness. like in human women. Cats experience morning sickness because their bodies aren’t used to larger uterine organs. You’ll also notice that your cat’s nipples will begin to grow. This typically will happen by the sixth week of the pregnancy. Her nipples will become soft and pink, and they’ll fill with milk.

Your pregnant cat will start eating a lot more and demanding a lot more food. After all, it’s eating for more than just one! A pregnant cat likely won’t start eating more, however, until just a few days before delivery. So when this starts to happen, you can be assured that she’s about to give birth.

Further, you’ll notice your cat behaving a bit differently than you’re accustomed to. Pregnant cats are normally quieter and more loving than they are when they aren’t pregnant. Also, you can count on seeing the kittens in the uterus area within a week of delivery. This sometimes freaks some owners out, but it’s normal.

If the hair is falling out around her nipples and her nipples start to show she is most likely pregnant. Her belly will bow right out on both sides and she will waddle as she gets further along.

You should take her to the vet to see if she is pregnant or not.
