Now i have an 11 year collie male and a 3 year old cat. My dog does really play because he's so old. My cat is playful and likes to play rough, like pouncing, play biting(no hard), chasing. I was wondering if i should get a new kitten for her to play with. Also if i do should i a boy or girl(now my cats a female), what breed. Thanks!!

If you get a new kitten get one the oppiste sex of the one you already have that will reduce dominance issues. And a normal shelter cat would be good.

You could very well get another cat to play with your kitten now, contrary to popular belief cats do very well in a group.
Male/female is really of no difference, but no matter what you get you should have them fixed. Unspayed females can go into heat and be a royal pain, unneutered males tend to spray which is also very annoying.
Talk to your vet about ideas.. and then by all means go to your SPCA and consider adopting a kitten :-) There are lots of wonderful cats out there that need good homes :-)

I'm also considering getting a second cat. My advice is to go by personality not breed. You should probably get a kitten that is playful. Also make sure he or she is easygoing so your older cat can be the boss:)
Females tend to get along with males rather then other females. But a female kitten still might work.

Thirty-nine years of experience has taught me that katz are much happier having another furry person to play with, be it a dog, ferret, whatever. It has to do with inborn instincts for hunting, playing and just being small and furry. For a three year old adult kat, you might consider adopting an older kat, about 2 or 3, like from the shelter or the bulletin board at your Vet's office, just because the older the kat, the less likely it is to be adopted. Kat gender really doesn't matter as long as you "fix" both of them, just remember that shelter katz aren't always lovey dovey at first, they have been traumatized and it takes a few weeks to settle in.

it might be a good idea to get another kitten for her. your dog probly gets irritated by it. we had a border collie who was 10 and we got a siberian husky puppy. it drove her nuts because she was always bugging her.

get another kitten when you are ready, and they should entertain each other. get a female, female cats dont seem to mind other females, but they dont like males. im going through the process of introducing a male kitten to a 2 yr old female bengal cat. its not pretty.

I would. I would get a female cuz males spray. Your cat needs her exersize but you don't want your dog to get hurt. I would juss go to the pound, find a female cat and have fun! Hope you make the right choice! :-)

this is totally up to you. can you afford another kitten? if you can and you want one go for it...it shouldn't matter whether it is a boy or a girl as long as you get it fixed. the breed of cat is up to you as well....whatever catches your eye.

I have 4 cats, and none of them play with each other. They all have their own quirky personalities. I think it really depends on how much time you have to be able to give to them.
Out of my 4, they all have their own special time with me - and they make sure I give it to them.
Getting a bunch of toys, and teaching the little one to occupy herself would be my guess.
