Internal peace is an essential first step to achieving peace in the world. How do you cultivate it? It's very simple. In the first place by realizing clearly that all mankind is one, that human beings in every country are members of one and the same family.

if we believe our self to be worthless and feel nothing but hate for our self ... then it is only natural that we see others in the same light
changing the perception of our self and beginning to see our worth and ultimately loving who we are , will lead us to seeing worth in others and being able to love them also
yes peace begins with our self ... and from there we can spread that peace worldwide

I think the Dalai Lama is a very wise man and that if more people listened to him, we'd be a happier bunch. I am Pagan for a reason and one of the biggest reasons is the view of God/dess as immanent rather than transcendent. We are all connected through the divine spark of deity that is in ALL things.

Wise men through the ages have taught the same thing. A Jewish rabbi taught much the same thing a long time ago, but then he got caught up in a movement and was killed. After that he was made into an idol to be worshipped and adored, and his death became much more important than his life ever had been.

Within a few hundred years they had made him a god and decided that simply "believing" that he existed and died (as a god) was much, much more important than any of the lessons he had tried to teach.

Somehow his "love and forgive and help one another" message was perverted into something insane: "believe in my martyrdom or burn in hell for eternity".

No, first your basic needs should be met. When you are a starving kid in Africa (America has them too) you don't care much about the rest of man, just your next meal. Then you can work on that peace stuff.

I think not everyone values world peace, so it really doesn't matter what the Lama guy says.

Nice thought, it's to bad that it is so impractical. Too many in the family of man would just as soon kill Americans as look at them. Jim

Yes, we are members of one family ....has no one ever heard of 'black sheep' in the family?
That is, members of the family that don't care about family.
What does one do with them?
