I am allergic to penicillin and no one else in my family is, so it happens. Yet the doctors always gave me some alternative antibiotics.
I have a toddler going through a bad cold right now. I let him such on sugarless popsicles made from real fruit. I also put his baby food fruit jars in the refrigerator and feed them cold to him. He loves his cold mango/apple dessert! My pediatrician said a one year old may not know well how to swallow jello so I did not offer him this.
Make sure, as you introduce your son to new foods that you can do only one new fruit or veggie at a time so you can more easily tell if he has an allergic reaction to new foods. Since he has already shown allergies to medication, he could also be allergic to other things like food or environmental factors. I just came back from the Pediatrician and my son turns out to be allergic to carrots, (which I suspected cause they gave him diahreea), hazzlenuts, egg whites and cow milk!
Hope the little one gets better soon!

I'm the only one in my family allergic to penicillin so don't worry about that. Try Italian Ices, nice cold Jello, soft rice pudding or custard. A bottle with cold water, juice may sting. If he has run a fever for more than 3 days in a row I would find another doctor. If he has tonsilitis it's possible he will keep getting it. They try not to remove the tonsils unless the child keeps getting ear, nose or throat infections.

My oldest son is allergic to penicillin's too. The first in our family. There are other antibiotics your child can take that are in a different family other than penicillin. You have to stay on the doctors. It is so hard when your baby is sick and you can't do anything to fix it. Try popcicles. They may make his throat feel better.
Good Luck.

Oh my god that happened to my little girl just this year , she needed amoxacillan for a infection and also broke out in a rash so I took her back to the doctors and they had to prescribe me a really expensive off brand of penicillin thank god for insurance, but I have no idea why she would become allergic it doesn't run in my families , The doctor said sometimes it just happens, and it sucks.P.S I sorry cant help you with the name of the med. dont have the old bottle i looked.

u know this is perhaps the 1st case in which is a person is allergic to both amox and erythro. actually erythro is prescribed for people who are sensitive to amox.....
as far as allergy is concerned...there is absolutely no necessity to have a family history of allergy... even u may be allergic to something, its just by chance u ve never come into contact with that substance...allergy to pencillin especially doesnt run in families.
as far as supportive treatment is concerned i would suggest
a)warm brine gargling
b)throat drops
c)antiinflammatory like diclofenac or paracetamol to reduce throat pain
d)ask ur doctor to try a "fluoroquinolone" like ciprofloxacin or norfloxacin
usually patients are not allergic to these drugs

What that one Doc up top said sounds good.
You may want to add a multi-vitamin powder to his Jello and other stuff.
I use Shaklee with my kids. Its pretty tasteless and they get the best vitimans out there. Go to there web site and look for a distributer in your area.
Good Luck and Good Health!!!

I agree that jello would probably be easiest on the boy's throat. Or perhaps a little vanilla ice cream, if he likes that.
What I take for myself when I find myself getting sick is hot lemon and honey. Perhaps you can try that, only let it cool down a bit first.
Good luck for your son!

it does sound that he is allergic to penicillian, there are other antibiotics he can take you need to tell the doctor that you want him on omnicef or another type of antibiotic.he really does need one of these before it turns to strep throat, and then it can turn into bacterial menengitus. by the way penicillian is the most reported allergy in the world,it does not have to be genetic

The suffix "-itis" means to be inflamed. Ease the inflammation with an anti-inflammatory (Ibuprofen) and push liquids. Kids are pretty resilient...if they're hungry they'll eat. Good luck!
