If adding him to my account does not affect his credit, any suggestions on how we can get him a credit card?

To be clear, my husband has an SSN. There are many ways to get a LEGAL SSN prior to getting your green card...in fact, it is required in most cases that you get your SSN prior to submitting an application to become a US citizen.

most credit card issuers will report authorized users to the credit bureaus. you will need to call the company because most will report as long as you have a social security number for the other person. if they don't ask for the social security number they probably won't be able to report it.

If he's attempting to strengthen his credit he ought to offer up utilizing for playing cards. Many lenders will reject you for having too many not user-friendly pulls. Many evaluate 2 contemporary not user-friendly pulls too many. Capital One's 'no worry' and 'new comer' playing cards are solid sub-best playing cards that do not require a not user-friendly pull to work out if he 'might want to' qualify. I say 'might want to' because the delicate pull preapproval isn't a assure. Getting rejected on a delicate pull is more beneficial effectual then rejection on a not user-friendly pull. only google 'Capital One preapproval'. very last I checked the area became 3-5 spots down. He may also attempt Orchard economic company which gives you a secured card that has a extreme APR and extreme Annual fee yet as far as i recognize turns very few people down. He can draw close onto that for a lengthy time period and after a 12 months of protecting the soundness low, paying it off on time etc he should be able of qualify for more beneficial effectual playing cards. also as far as your husband being an AU on your playing cards, it would want to help his credit. This turned right into a worry-loose practice up till many years in the past (talked about as piggybacking). After the present reform the purely people this custom is benificial to are those that could want to have respectable reason to be an AU (better 1/2, newborn). i'd not propose having a card issued to him only to circumvent topics.

Since your husband is waiting for his "green card," he can't get a Social Security Number (unless he wants to fraudulently use someone else's."

Credit Bureaus keep track of credit accounts by name AND Social Security Number.

it will help him a lot, call your credit cards ( the one you have the longest and no late payments) and ask them to add your husband like authorized user. the credit scoring software credit agency use only read how long ago the credit card was open.

As long as you can both handle the card in a responsible manner, that is a good start, yes. Also putting his name onto the household utility bills should help as well.
