If it is saved as a Word document and not an Open Office document (.doc instead of .odt or whatever) then you should be able to open it. If it was saved as an Open Office document, you'll probably need Open Office or Abiword to open it. If you need to open that document right now, go to http://portableapps.com/apps/office/abiword_portable - this is a portable version of Abiword that won't leave any crap on your computer when you're done, and it's about 15MB or so.

Yes. Open office has the ability to do a save or save as a file with the extension .doc so it can be read by Microsoft Word. Hope this helps.
