i've grown up methodist and i volunteer in the catholic and anglican church. i've always known and believe firmly that the Bible says we ought to 'come as we are'. that doesnt mean too literally because the Bible is an entire allegory, which is why God blessed us with intelligence and a good brain.
When we ought to 'come as we are' it means we shouldnt worry about what other people think, or if people are going to think, what's s/he doing in church, she swore at a truck driver now the other day, or he got so pissed last week, what does it matter what you did in the past, God wants you as you are. so the outer body is important too. you wouldnt dress in your pyjamas on a hot date would you, so why pay less respect in church where the focus is not on clothing, but on the Word of God. Thats generally what people go to church for, or ought to. There's a time for everything, according to the Bible (i think its Ecclesiastes) so, if you wear certain things for certain occasions, then, choose carefully how you'd like to represent yourself during time of worship. If you go to a job interview, you're hardly going to wear a bikini and g-string??Hope this makes sense, take care, Wisdom.

How would dresses or skirts be better if the women dress too flashy or try to doll up so they can compare outfits? How would guys wearing suits or a dress shirt make a difference? Where in the bible does it talk about how to dress in a church? If anything, God wants people to dress modestly. That would mean that women should wear jeans and a t-shirt to church instead of flashy, cute dresses, and guys..I don't have a problem with anything they wear. You talk about respect but in all honesty you have no idea what is respectful to God because you are not God. God favors the poor over the rich. If you want to respect God in a church service, then do so by wearing inexpensive outfits.

This depends son the makeup of the congregation. In a church like ours that is located in a poor neighborhood, it is come-as- you-are. People do not have fancy clothes. A person should dress as best as they are able to, but admittance to church should never depend on how a person is dressed. Revealing clothing is not appropriate, but the person coming through the front door may not know any better. The object shouls always be to get people into the church and get them saved and instructed in the word. Paying attentio to how people are dresses is a religious attitude and religion never saved anybody. The Pharisees were religious---they walked around with their heads held high promoting their self-righteousness in public, while breaking every law they could in private. Unfortunately, this is what the church of today hs become---a bunch of religious prigs dictating their own code of self-righteousness, rather than walking in the Spirit of God. Jesus loves you.

Well, it depends. If you're dressing for the congregation, do the full on dress with hat or slacks and a nice shirt -- business casual, you know, or at least the 'dress jeans' and a nice shirt. On the other hand, if you're dressing for your lord, wear what's comfortable. He's not a fashion junkie, from what I hear, so it's pretty much your call.

Something along the lines of business casual - a little more than jeans and a t-shirt - presentable. Not something you would wear to the beach or a club. But then, if the only way you will go to church is in your pj's, I guess that's okay. Not like God cares, but since it is a slightly more formal gathering, you should wear slightly more formal clothes, but nothing too fancy.

Since the "church" the bible speaks of isn't a building or a meeting, you can dress any way that's approriate for the gathering. The church is a PEOPLE who belong to God. You don't go to church, you ARE the church. So you're at church, with church, doing church, however you care to say it, any time you're with other christian believers. When you, who are the church, are at the beach, wear beachwear. When you who are the church are at a party, wear funwear. When you, who are the church, are at a bible study, follow the lead of the host or hostess and you'll be great! happy churchin!

Slacks/Nice suit. The Scripture says, "Let everything be done decent and in order". Though in it's common context, the Scripture I quoted was referring to the proper method of worshiping God, I believe it should also pertain to our appearance. Though you're not going to church to participate in a beauty contest, I feel as if a person should be prepared for a special occasion. Even when the woman who anointed Jesus' feet with the perfume and washed it with her tears and wiped them with her HAIR, she was humbling herself in His presence with the BEST of what she had (expensive perfume). The disciples for certain good reasons thought it was a waste, but Jesus rebuked by saying, "She doeth this in PREPARATION of my burial". Even in death today we embalm bodies, dress them up nicely and remember them as they were in life. How can we do any less for something that we so often take for granted like going to God's house to worship Him in the presence of our brothers and sisters in Christ?

Most certainly with underwear, panties especially females.

Boys in Decauterville West Virgina last summer got caught with "Toe Mirrors" attached to their shoes in First Baptist Church Sunday School.

If you go, I would not recommend going naked, so yes, dress. If you are that much of a free spirit, don't even bother with church, but walk bear foot in the grass or something.

Well you need to dress specifically...you can go to church in your pj's...mind you, I have yet to try that still!!
But decent is fine...jeans, shirt, shoes!! Remember, God doesn't look at our dress code...only our spirits...and if you were maybe thinking of saying, "Well, obviuously...I just wanted to know!"...I just felt like quoting it...('',)
