I had a cocktail, he was so easy to train, easy to handle. You just have to put the time in. Don't expect him to start talking or singing if you don't have the time. This is true for any animal. If you can afford to, i would recommend getting a hand raised one, they seem to be much easier to handle. Especially for the novice.

I absolutely love my Nanday Conure. There are so many beautiful conures that are so sweet. The conures also can learn to talk. If you are wanting a bird, I highly recommend conures. I also would suggest that you try to find a male bird, no matter what species you find. They tend to talk better, and are a lot more friendly then the hens (females) are.
Before getting your bird, please, do lots of research and make sure you have a cage that is the correct size for whatever bird you fall in love with. Most birds enjoy having something to do, so toys are really helpful. I know that the bird toys can get really expensive in pet stores, so I have been known to go to the dollar stores and get baby toys that can be suspended from the top of the cage for the birds to play with. They also like to play with the waffle balls. My conure will roll the ball all over the bottom of the cage, lay on his back and throw it in the air. Lots of fun to watch.
Enjoy whatever bird you do adopt.. They are wonderful friends, entertainers, and companions.

I own a 3 1/2 year old sun conure. They can be very aggresive birds. Although they are wonderful friends, companions and great entertainment. She can be a little grumpy when she has been home all day by herself, my fiance and I both work through the day so it is later in the evening when we get home. She is so excited to see us though. I leave the radio or tv on for her, she likes that. She loves old rock & roll too! Make sure they have plenty of water and they love toys and a big area to play in. Cockatiel's can be a little aggresive to but they are just as content when nobody is around as to when there is someone around. You have to give it attention, or they will start to pull their feathers out and look poor. Be sure to clip their wings, beak and toenails. Ouch! My bird can draw blood to you when she bites, which is very rarely. She flew away just a few weeks ago and was gone 24 hours exactely, we found her 2 miles down the road from where we live. Now she isn't aloud outside and she don't like that to much. She loves going outside, feeling the breeze in her feathers and listening to the birds chirp. My bird loves to sit on your shoulders and crawl down your shirt and come back up and peak her head out. But when her claws get sharp you can't stand her on you. But I recommened a bird for anyone, they are great pets and once again try the cockatiels, they make great pets too.

Cockatiel are the sweetest of the tow. Conures tend to be more aggressive after a while. I have had my cockatiel for 7 years , she is still very sweet. I had my sun conure for 1 years and she turned on different members of the family, you would not know when you were her favorite or her target.

Cockatiel!!!!
They are sweet, and low matanince.
They are also a very loving gentle bird.
They are really easy to train to talk
They come in a few different colors
They don't need a huge cage
They are not expensive either!!
I have never had or really delt with a conure. But I do own a cockatiel. He is a rescue one, but has really come around nicely.

I strongly recommend a cockatiel for the novice. They are friendly, easy to care for, and much less expensive. They are a step up from the budgie which is the ultimate beginner bird. I have 3 parrots, a cockatiel, a budgie and 7 finches. I have also raised these kinds of birds. Hope this helps.

It would depend on what you want. Conures are more expensive than cockatiels. I have two cockatiels and I absolutly love them. If I could afford a conure I would have one of those too!

Start with a cockatiel. They are smaller and easier to manage. Conure's are VERY noisy.

Cockatiel. Conures are rather more demanding, not to mention have the ability to be more destructive if they're not happy.

Both are good, put the cockatiel is a much heartier bird. For a first time owner, I would pick that one. Plus, just incase he gets out the door, your out less money.
