Hi!
I was in the Air Force for seven years... I joined two weeks after I graduated from high school. It was the best thing I ever did. I loved it!
I wasn't in the best of shape when I joined either. Basic training for six weeks got me into shape. I will not lie, it was hard. At the end of training, I had to be able to run two miles in under twenty minutes, do 14 real push-ups and something like over 30 real sit-ups. But I did it... and so can you. Basic Training (and maybe tech school) is the hardest part of joining the military. But once you are through it... you do not ever have to go back and you can be proud that you made it through.
I went to tech school in Mississippi, then headed for Germany. I spent four years there and it was amazing. On my free time, I traveled to Paris, London, Amstradam, and so many other places. When I deployed, I experieced new cultures and saw places I never dreamed of seeing. I even spent four months in Italy... oh that was fun. I returned to the US, then went to Kuwait... that was my best assignment ever.
While in the Air Force, I went to college and got my degree... and the Air Force paid for it... and the money did not come out of my GI Bill. That I still have. I plan on using it this spring to further my degree.
It was only because I got married that I left the military... I didn't want to endure the long seperations from my husband. But if you are single, have no money for college, want to travel, and want a steady paycheck... join the Air Force.
You should think about going to talk to a recruiter... even if you are only fifteen. The recruiter will tell you everything you want/need to know. Then you can make an informed decision on whether or not the military life is right for you. :)
Best Wishes... T.

my husband is in the airforce he didnt enjoy it to much at first cause the lower ranking u are the more dirty work they make u do but hes been in 6 yrs now and likes it more good stable paycheck great benifits now on working out its kinda tough specially over seas u have pt at least 1 a week but if ur in bad shape and fell ur pt test u will have to go up to 5 times a week i think u run a mile and a half in less then 13 mins and sit ups and push ups not to shure how long i think in a min u have to have at least 50 situps but its a little diffrent for girls they do less or something but just start running oh yea study ur asvab book the higher u score the better jobs u can qualify for u dont want to work services which is working at the gym or cooking in kitchen and security forces wich are cops dont want them either they work up to 15hrs a day and deploy all the time so if u have a family like husb or children by then not now u will never be home u might want like a medical job they are low on people or office job for a girl its the best choice good luck but remember the military is not for every one and air force is the best choice from all the other branches its safer unless ur like a poilot but u have to go to college first and become a officer to join in as piolot

It depends, in general, from what I've heard, try to have as many skills/as much education as possible before enlisting.
If your goal is simply to serve in the Air Force, starting after high school is fine. But, if you want any decent job with decent pay, the best way is probably Air Force ROTC, which is when you receive training while attending college.
Very often, especially if you're smart, they will help pay the cost of your education. I've been told also that you need to negotiate your contract with the military like you would negotiate any business contract. They're going to try to recruit with as little money as possible. Simple negotiations may raise your enrollment bonus, etc...
Call any recruiting office and they'll answer your specific questions. It's what they're paid to do.

Look up Civil Air Patrol... it's an auxillary of the USAF ment for teens up to the age of 21..... they will fill you in!
You buy a uniform, and you earn ranks and do drill too. You even go to camps with other teens.
I was a Royal Canadian Air Cadet in my youth and so was my nephew. I met many CAP cadets in NY in combined training coursed and we all had a great time.
My nephew is now 26 and is a Lt. in our Air Force. He will eventually fly the CF-18 Hornet!
Good Luck!!!!
Aim High little one! Have Fun Too!!
