Actually, I have heard of such a case - one of my friends (their cat lived to about 16 years old, btw, long after this anecdote) used to have a cat who used to love sitting on any pile of clothes - in the washing machine, in the thing they used to take the laundry out to the drying lines, on the clean laundry, on the dirty laundry...
Anyway, one time my friend's mother came home, noticed the washing machine was stuffed, closed it and turned it on. Only then did she notice that the cat had been asleep among the clothes... anyway, the cat was noticed soon enough and was rescued.

To answer the original question - dry as after any bath, with a clean towel, thorougly, and then keep in a warm place for a bit so that s/he doesn't catch a chill.

And DON'T do it again, it's not fair to your poor cat.

Use an old, clean towel to rub him down lightly. Make sure the airconditioning is on low or off so he doesn't get a chill.

To the rest of you who suggested microwaves and dryers.. shame on you, if this guy really DID dump his cat in the washing machine, congratulations, you just may have killed his cat if he's dumb enough to take that advice.

I case their is any one sensible out there, an old towel (or your wifes) My brothers has a really cool scar across his chest from holding a cat who thought the hair drier was a silly idea, the scar is really cool, looks very impressive twenty years on so go for it.

If the water was soapy, rinse them or they might start frothing at the mouth, or more seriously make them selves ill ingesting the soap/detergent

How do you accidentally PUT a cat into a washing machine

The safest way I can think of is a hair drier. It's better than all the crazy ideas the other people put in. But you would have to restrain your cat if it's afraid of the loud noise

I was going to answer your question seriously until I read your user name....

I wonder why cats bring out the sadist in so many people?!!

Is it because most cats don't need humans....we feel rejected....so we let rip in our imaginations....

I hope it WAS your imagination.....?

Cos how can you ACCIDENTALLY put a cat in a washing machine?

PS, I am a giant cat and I'm coming to get you and put you in my washing machine, then I'll decide how to dry you...

Miaow!!!

The best way is with a bath towel or something like that.. You may get hair on the towel but such is life.. When he is finished drying.. BRUSH your kitty well to get the other hair off of it
