The same reason all makers stopped with sports cars: there was simply no market for them as people are going with SUV's and minivans. Also emissions regulations killed of many Touring and GT cars as well. This is why there is no RX-7, Supra, Celica, MR-2, 240SX, 300ZX, etc. I thought Toyota still made the MR-S, but maybe not.

Because Toyota took a survey and found out more people like trucks then sport cars.

too much competition and lack of success.. Toyota never had a good platform for any sportscar.. they got lucky with the overjuicing of supra but that was a bad project since it lead to losses.. low prices too much power not too successful for the company although successful for the crowd.. Toyota still doesn't have a good platform r a decent engine anywhere in their lineup for a sports car..

^^^^^^ lexus does make a sports car. it's the lexus is. the reason toyota does not make any sports cars is because the goal of toyota is reliability and fuel economy. you make better buisness with high gass milage than top speed with gass prices

toyota will return its sporty line up someday....just look at nissan now vs several years ago when they killed off the 300z, 240sx, etc....then all they had was the pathfinder, xterra, sentra, etc.....i believe it is the evolution of a car company to withdraw from certain areas, in order to redirect their focus later on to a new market with new vehicles.

also, they need to sell what sells, not what is cool at the time....cool cars dont sell as often as practical cars, its a fact of life.

The Solara convertible is very cute and sporty. I do miss the Celica, though.

celica was discontinued as the engine it used was cut due to high emissions and slumping sales.
