Do not even attempt to start a low carb way of eating without getting either the Atkins, Protein Power or South Beach book and read about it. It is not a diet but a lifestyle change. Actually any way of eating is a lifestyle. So whatever way of eating to lose weight you choose stick with it as diets do not work.

Also with all low carb diets stay away from things that are naturally white, flour, rice, sugar, potatoes etc and also corn (ex: corn syrup)

Rice is usually very high in carbs - even more than most pastas.

Overall, there are more options with bread. The question is what type of bread are you interested in eating? White is high in sugars. Brands like FLYING PIG actually make a low-carb version. Basically, get into the grocery store and scan the labels. You will be surprised at how much breads can differ in their overall content. Good luck!
