Buy a LARGE jar of mayonnaise (real mayo), and work it into your hair by the handful. Really rub it into your scalp. Wrap your entire scalp (hair and all) in Saran wrap or other plastic wrap and leave it on for about 45 min. This smothers the little buggers. Then wash your hair as usual. Comb out with a fine-toothed comb (you can get a special "nit comb" in the pharmacy/chemist). It's NO reflection on you that you have lice, they can jump like fleas. And lice don't like dirty hair, they much prefer clean people. You just happened to be in reach.
The mayo will also act as a hair conditioner, which can't be bad...
You may have to do this twice in 24 hrs to make sure you've got em all. Good luck and chin up!

You're right, hair lice (also known as head lice and louse) are disgusting. There are a couple of things you can do to get rid of louse.
1. Don't bother shaving. Shaving will do nothing to stop either the adult louse or the eggs. The eggs are usually left on the very base of the hair, so shaving won't do anything for you.
2. Buy some shampoo filled with a chemical called Permethrin, the same chemical they kill scabies and pubic lice with. Some common brands would be RID, or Nix, or R&C. You can acquire them at your local drug store, like Walgreens. No big deal.
3. Wash yourself with that stuff per the directions, and once you're done and you've dried off, take all of your laundry and wash it in a washing machine at a temperature no lower than 130 degrees (ie. Very Hot). This will serve to kill leftover lice and cook their eggs. Mmm...eggs.
4. If you don't feel like using chemicals (ie. insecticides) on your body, you can try Tea Tree Oil. Mixing the Tea Tree Oil (a natural antiseptic, louse killer) with a cream like aloe and applying it to your scalp every morning and evening will, apparently, kill the lice and maybe their nits. If you need more help getting the nits (the eggs), then go out and buy a nit comb. They're cheap and effective, and far safer than putting potentially hazardous chemicals in your hair.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

It is called head lice and the only way you get rid of the nits is take the comb that comes with the shampoo and separate your hair and comb them out ( You can also put baby oil or olive oil in your hair the nits will slide out better) if you have long hair you will need some help also wash all your clothes that are dirty and your bedding and retreat yourself and your bedding again in 7 to 10 days our whatever the box's says. Don't worry people all over the world get head lice it is not disgusting to have it but it is disgusting to do nothing about it and keep it because it is VERY contagious. Also either boil you combs and brushes or buy new ones. GOOD LUCK it takes time but they will go away.

There is a product called RID. there is one type for nits, which are the actual lice themselves, then there is one for eggs. Get it and you are going to need help. Get someone to part your hair and apply the shampoo to your scalp, not just your hair. the there is a little tiny comb that comes with it. Basically they just scratch your scalp with it. for the stubborn areas of eggs you might need tweezers for those. you need to do this everyday for at least a week to make sure they are all gone. Lice likes clean hair. Funny, huh?

Try T-Gel shampoo. It's for dandruff and it contains coal tar extract that may help clear up the lice eggs. You can also buy a fine-tooth comb from a drugstore that helps remove the eggs that are stuck on your strands of hair and scalp. If you go to the drugstore to buy the comb, ask the pharmacist about the lice. They can help recommend something for you, too.

Go to a pharmacy and get some shampoo especially made for lice. You will need to follow directions. You will also need to keep your hair clean. Make sure you wash your brushes and combs in scalding hot water and have your mom wash your sheets in hot water and then dry them on the hottest setting. Don't borrow others combs or brushes and if you think you've gotten them from your cousin, you should tell him or her that they might have them. Plus you must keep your hair clean. If you can't always afford shampoo, the dollar store has some or tell the school nurse and she might be able to round some up for you.

you need to use the shampoo more than once, and use a very fine comb to comb the eggs out. it'll take many times to get them all. you keep using the shampoo to kill the lice from eggs that have hatched, and you use the comb to keep combing the eggs out. repeat this for about 2 weeks or so, the eggs are really close to the scalp so be prepared for some hair pulling if you have long hair.

I had this problem with my daughter after visiting some friends. I was told to put Avon Skin So Soft bath oil on her hair for 15 minutes. Comb through with a fine tooth comb. Get someone to comb your hair for you so they can see where the eggs are. Rinse out with warm water. Repeat as necessary!! Her hair was so soft afterwards. I took her to the doctor the next day and the doc couldn't find any trace of the lice. I hope this works for you if you try it. Good Luck!!

Go to your local drug store. There are several over the counter remedies that are effective. Most are shampoos. Just read the directions carefully and it should solve your problem. One very important thing though, it is necessary that you change and wash all of your bed linens, etc. The lice eggs can remain on clothing and linens so you and other family members can get reinfected if these precautions aren't taken.

Make a past out if powdered tide and water and wash you hair with it. Let it sit for about 5 minutes before rinsing. This works much better and is much less expensinve than the store bought remedies. Alos get a lice comb and have someone else come your hair with it.
