interesting answers so far guys. I know "sometimes" sounds vague but its in reference to the times when you try to avoid something so much that we run head first in to the situation we tried to avoid. You can see this as creating the situation yourself or just walking in to your destiny.
It is really a description of the times when you can see the potential for something (you believe to be) bad to happen. You try to prevent it and your actions end up making it happen. It would have happened anyway. Instead of changing the effect we just end up changing the cause. The outcome remains virtually the same.

As a Christian I cannot help but remember the story of Jonah who tried to escape God's calling for him to go to Niniveh. He tried to avoid it but God got His way in that situation. Bottom line is, if its God's plan then that plan will succeed regardless of your position.

Fatalistically I agree with it, as if it is your destiny ~ no matter what you do you will arrive at your destiny. There is no way to know what could possibly lead you astray from your destiny unless you know exactly what your destiny is and when you were supposed to achieve it.
Choices along the way - especially ones that seem hard or negative tend to be the most character building and life shaping.

i have heard a true story about this actually
a man was to sail from England to America way back when ships were the only means of travel , but a close friend of his had a dream that he would die on the voyage by a freak accident , so told him to warn him
he changed plans ( time and ship ) and done his best to avoid any nasty accidents
when on board , they were to fire a shot as they set off on the voyage ... so the man , still aware of what his friend said was naturally worried
so as a precaution he stood back from the gun instead of in the direction of it ... and the gun backfired !
so despite all his precautions .. it seems he couldn't avoid the inevitable and also his actions of avoidance was the cause of the accident anyway

If we presume destiny ... then yes. If the future is predetermined, whatever actions you take ... whether unknowing or in an attempt to change the predetermined future ... are the actions that will lead to that point.

Sometimes is the key word there.
Yes, I agree- although in order to avoid it you must know what it is, maybe a subconscious part of you wants to achieve that destiny. Otherwise why would you even consider it.....!!! oooh my head hurts now, ta x

I do not believe in destiny. A person makes his own life by his deeds for the most part.

The word "sometimes" is sufficiently vague as to make the statement true I think.
