By 9 months of age all 3 of my sons were pulling them selves along the furniture though none ventured away from it till they were 11 months old. Then they took off running! My grandson is now 17 months old and has been walking on his own since he was 9 months old. I think that he walked sooner because he's surrounded by adults and other children who walk all day and wanted to be like them, whereas my older sons were always on the floor with the younger ones. Each child develops at his or her own pace, we just need to let them!

My brother was pulling himself up and walking himself around the room at 5 months of age. I on the otherhand didnt walk until i was about a year.

I nannied a little girl for three months, who at nine months of age could barely roll herself over. Which was rediculous because her mother was an occupational therapist at a local elementary. That child literally NEVER got any tummy time until i came along. It was horrible. She cried all the time from not knowing how to use her body.

Its amazing how different each child can be.

Yes it is quite normal for a 8-9 month old to be walking both my children were doing this at this time My girl was potty trained at 14 months (yes she was) and my boy took longer he was 21 months however my boy stop taking his bottle at 11 months he was eating baby food from 2 weeks old and my girl took to the bottle (mind you mainly water as she got older) till she was a little over 2 years My main point is that ever child is different you just have to listen to each one individually and adjust to them to help that one child accomplish his/her goal at that moment Good Luck

Mine is 9 months and he's starting to do that, too. My oldest didn't start sitting up without falling over until around 7 months though. Maybe it's a boy thing! haha!
You're right, and you know well how they're all so different. I think being around the older ones gives them a bit more of an incentive to get going.
Hey... maybe potty training will be a cinch this time, huh?! 8^D

My boy at 9 months just started to be able to sit up on his own and now he's 14 months, but not walking yet. he can stand on his own for about 3 seconds but he's always pulling himself up and he crawls really fast.

I have twin boys, one started walking at 10 months and the other at 11 months. (now they are 14 yrs. old) but I have another boy at age 9, he started walking at nine months!! I think the youngest kids just want to hang with the older kids so they start doing more at an earlier age.

My son is 10 months and is crawling, pulling himself up and walks holding your hand.

I dont know if boys are quicker but all babies are different. Some are just more keen to see whats out there than others!

Good luck and enjoy your peace now!

I have 3 children-ages 23, 9 and 8. My 2 girls-the oldest each walked by 9 mos. of age. My son walked at 11 mos. of age yet he did not even sit up until he was 8 mos. old-the girls both sat at 5 mos. old according to their baby books. All children do develop differently. My girls were 6.9 lbs and 6.8 lbs. at birth. My son was only 4.8 lbs. My 1st born was climbing out of her crib at 10 mos. old-the other 2 never did it. Good luck and bless you all!
