The Savage Model 340 was made form 1950-1985. It came with a 22 or 24 in. barrel, had open sights and a plain pistol grip stock. These guns are valued at between $130 in 60% condition to $225 in 100% condition.
The Blue Book does not mention a "B" series but does mention a "C", "V" and "S Deluxe" series, these are worth very slightly more.
Update
I did a cursory search on Gunbroker for the Savage Model 340's that "itsa_fact_jack" cites as having sold for $300+. Well, it seems "jack" doesn't put ALL the "facts" on the table. He neglected to mention that 2 of them had scopes mounted and 2 were Deluxe models. All appeared to be in excellent condition. From the quick look I took of the auctions, it appears one sold for more than book value. Hey, that happens and if it happens for you, thats great, but it doesn't set the value for all the Model 340's sold after that.

A .222 sold on http://www.gunbroker.com for $325, there is another up for auction and the current bid is $225, another has a starting bid of $475 with no bids yet.
Here are a few, other than .222 that have actually sold on GB in the past 90 days. They were all used but not abused. This should give you some idea what your rifle is actually worth..I would say if your rifle is in very good condition its "value" is $325 since four of them sold at that price...Anyone who got one for less got themselves a deal...
30-30 - $325
30-30 - $141
30-30 - $275
30-30 - $230
30-30 - $170
30-30 - $225
.223 - $228
22 Hornet - $186
22 Hornet - $325
22 Hornet - $322
You can also check http://www.gunsamerica.com to see what they are "asking" for your rifle, but asking price is not the same as selling price..GA is like the gun classifieds...Between those two sites they have over 50,000 firearms up for sale daily..
