Yes, the American justice system is corrupted. However, the sentence given to a rapist often depends on other aspects of the case, such as the age of the person raped, the relationship between the two people, whether or not there was a weapon involved, etc. So, you really can't make sweeping generalizations about the sentences handed out. In addition, I highly doubt that you are monitoring ALL of the sentences given to rapists; most likely you are probably only referring to those reported to you on your local news station.

The theory here is that one mistake should not ruin a life. Shame though... because it DOES ruin the life of the victim.
Three strikes, you're out? That only allows for the ruination of three lives, plus the lives of all who love them.
Sometimes it does seem that we value the life of the criminal more than we value the life of the person they destroyed. I'm not sure about a solution for that. I think that for certain crimes, there should be no entry back into society. It's just a safety precaution and will save the next possible victim.
Repeat offenders? Why did we give them a chance to offend repeatedly? It's our fault as a society and the government's responsibility to protect the rest from such people. I do believe we're falling short in many cases.

It just hasn't reached that point yet. Rapists due or any sort of sex offender have to report themselves into a database everytime they move, so all of their neighbors are alerted that they are a rapist.
That includes someone who may have been at a party in college, had sex with a girl who consented, and then the next day the girl decided it was a mistake, and pressed charges.
So think about that, getting screwwed over, then having everyone you ever live by think you're a rapist. I cant imagine a worse punishment.

The guilty probably deserve life, but I am personally opposed to the death penalty, because a society that kills prisoners as punishment for crime is setting an example that is ok to kill as a form of punishment to its citizens.
An innocent person can be convicted in a rape case, especially if there is limited physical evidence, and a jury convicts on the basis of witness testimony and emotion, then an innocent person can easily be put to death. In this case, not only has the guilty person not been punished, but an innocent person has had their life taken, and the victim has not been given justice.
In some cases women have been known to play the role of rape victim, when in fact they had agreed to consensual sex with the man. This can destroy someones life, and by giving the death penalty for rape, the victim can be given the power to kill through their word. E.g. I accuse you of rape, but you plead "not guilty", because you're innocent. The jury convicts you on a rape charge, and you're sentenced to death. Too easy.
Death is irreversible, but an innocent person can later be freed from jail. Instead of looking at harsher forms of punishment, society should look at solutions to prevent the crime from being committed in the first place.

A lot of states are cracking down on these type of creeps. Some are proposing GPS tracking devices and other ways to keep track of them. I guess some people can change, but it doesn't seem these types can, especially child molesters. I say castrate them all and shoot em. But I guess that's too barbaric for the general public. Even though it's nothing close to what those kids go through.

Our laws are passed by elected officials after deliberation. They do not suit our passions. You must remember that rape includes willing females too young to legally give consent. It is a crime by definition and custom. Mohammed married an eight year old. Different customs.
Prisons are understaffed. Rapists have a rough time in prison. Child molesters have a very rough time. It is almost a death sentence after torture.

Yeah it is crazy. It seems like most rapists and/or child molesters end up doing the same thing once they get out of jail. Maybe the gov't should set up a colony for them. So they can rape and molest eachother all day.

it is because the system has fallen away from justice when they give different penalties for the same crime. for example one guy steals a TV get 10 years and another guy steal the same kind of TV and get 2 months jail time and i also believe the death penalty is the correct punishment in biblical times if you were caught raping some one you were stoned to death and i believe that it still applies today and if we would go by biblical standards our system would not be corrupt like it is

Rapists and child molesters if proven w/o any reasonable doubt should be committed to prison for their natural life! Some may argue it's to severe, I say what if it was your daughter or mother? Some may argue costs, isn't the cost better than the alternative? I say yes!
