We are remodeling our 110 year old home. We have found whiskey bottle from 1912 and newspaper from 1946 and onions in our ceiling.

Many moons ago, people would hang onions and other things from the garden on ceiling hooks. Either for drying or to preserve freshness, by allowing air to circulate around.

the onions could be to keep mice away or some other pests. Sounds like an alcoholic lived there, hiding a bottle? That sure is a strange combination of items.

That is so cool, Just imagine what other treasures you might find.
As far as the onions go perhaps they were using the atic area as storage in the winter for their summer bulbs.
Thats the neat thing about century old homes every once and a while you unearth a treasure.

I know the newspaper was probably for insulation. Maybe they were thirsty. Now on to the onions. i would think that mice or other rodents would have eaten them by now or just disintegrated. Do you mean onions or scallions are growing, if that is what you mean then you have water problems also..
more detail would be cool.

Onion are something with keeping away evil spirts... but it sounds like people might have just been dirty!! LOL, they got drunk reading a newpaper and threw some onions around!!

It means that you should clean a house before you move in. You never know how clean the previous owners were.
