My boyfriend is in Iraq and I tell these hard-legs I have a boyfriend and happy and they still want to hit up on me. For all they know I could be a toothless hag. They are the most desperate lowest life form. Do they call women in the phone book at random? Why is it okay to IM women at random? Why do they do this? How do I stop it?

You can't really stop it, you just have to hit the ignore button when they have a go at you.
They only harass women on the Internet because they are too chicken to try and get one another way.
Men on the net have not quite worked out yet, that no one wants a desperate illiterate fool for a boyfriend.

Because they are fishing for a catch. They see women with a husband that's away for a long time as an easy catch, and a lot of women that are married to soldiers are guilty of it. It sucks but as long as women that marry soldiers mess around when they're deployed, these people will exist.

For one thing these people are losers and they do it because they have the anonymity of the internet and it cheaper than calling people on the phone at random.

Men who do this seem to think they are the biggest baddest men out there. They feel as if any woman who they IM will fall at their feet. The best thing for you to do is to simply put them on your ignore list. If things get worse, report them for harassment at the abuse hotline.

I agree, it's so annoying. How they show complete disregard for my relationship really ticks me off. They just assume every girl on the internet is interested in them, I guess.

hide your ID when you log on and that will leave you visible to your contacts only. IM is open season for all the looneys wanting to have their kicks. i tried it for a month and i got viruses in return.

I don't know...... there are alot of pervs out there I think. Just ignore them. Don't respond at all even to tell them to leave you alone. I have found if you ignore them they will move on to someone else!
