I have an international business degree. I have held a job in the IT field for 8 years. What options/opportunities are there at the State department- I would like to work abroad. Also, I have two young children. How does that work into the picture? Do they come with me? (Does my whole family come?-I am married too.)

IT professionals are always welcome in the foreign service; we have extremely sexy computer systems that always need a loving touch as well as a wild and wonderful vision of the future. Both the generalist and specialist ranks welcome such people.

And yes, we take our families to the strangest places. There are some posts that are so dangerous that families cannot accompany the officer, but those of us with families choose among those we find are the best fits for our families as well as our interests.
