Quit smoking first, and make sure you are well past the addiction before you try to overcome the weight concern. I know several people who've either lost weight before quitting, or tried to do both at the same time, and ended up just gaining it all back, and some of them restarting their smoking.

Without knowing your actual weight and height, it would be difficult to guess your body mass index. Yes, you are right that you may gain weight if you give up smoking. I always advise my patients at the smoking cessation clinic to expect 4 lbs in weight after giving up nicotine because nicotine increases your metabolic rate so it keeps your weight down. However, a good smoking cessation clinic will advise you on recognising the trigger factors that make you reach out for that cigarette and what to do to avoid boredom and comfort eating. Your G.P can also help you by prescribing diet pills but these will only be given if you are motivated to lose the weight. Good luck!

Hi
Good that you want to quit smoking, try this plan instead to lose the weight so here goes,
If you are serious about losing weight, the calories in the food you eat should be less than the energy you use. You will have to increase your metabolic rate now, and plan your diet carefully.
Formulate your own weight loss plan and you will lose weight faster. More details available at http://tinyurl.com/m7ckx
Good luck

People who quit smoking often gain weight because they substitute food for cigarettes...if you don't do that, you won't have to worry about it...the act of quitting smoking doesn't cause one to put on pounds...
If you want to lose weight...cut back on your calorie intake a bit...eat healthy, and exercise several times a week...when you begin burning more calories than you consume, the excess pounds will leave you...
Good luck!
