The cultures of Tahiti, Marquesas and New Zealand are all Polynesian. I don't know specifically about Tahiti, but the next island group to the West, the Cook Islands, are referred to by
the locals as Maori. In fact they claim New Zealand
was colonized from the Cook Islands, but some
other islands make the same claim.

They are not "maori", but Tahitian, Marquesan, and Maori are all part of the closely related Polynesian languages. The Maori went to New Zealand from Polynesia.

The Tahitian language is related to Maori, but not the same. "The languages of the Marquesan group are completely distinct."

no that are wrong, although there are similarities between alot of the polynesian cultures, each culture is distinct, it would be like calling kiwis australians, or americans canadians, even calling the japaneese chineese
