Do not worry, your doctor did the best when indicating you a gastroscopy to see if it is only gastritis - stomach inflammation - or if the duodenum - thin intestine - has not an ulcer. By the way, in the meantime, they checked your stomach and duodenum; they have seen your esophagus, the pipe between your mouth and your stomach.
If you are dealing with heartburn for years, then is normal that by this time your esophagus is also inflamated. The reason why they took the biopsy is usually out of routine. In the meantime, probably a cultive from your gastric liquid will be done in order to see if antibiotics can be helpful for you.
Sure, the stress is one of the most powerful triggers to have gastritis. Avoid smoking if you do, eat in small portions, light dinner and earlier than 3 hours before going to sleep. Spicy food, greasy, or very sweat will not help you as well.
I know is easy to say but difficult to do since I can not recall how many of these procedures I went through till now: always the same. However, is prudent to do the right thing, go to the doctor, check up what is going on and take the right medication for your case.
Please do not forget to tell your doctors about the stressful situation you are in, no further details are necessary.
Be careful and take care of yourself. Pay attention to the color of your stools and report any change to your doctor. If you start with black or like coffee diarrhea, go to the emergencies.
Do not be scare, I try to do my best to help you out, all this not necessarily will happen to you.
I wish you the best,
Fro

Gastroscopy is an examination of the inside of the gullet, stomach and duodenum. It is performed by using a thin, flexible fibre-optic instrument that is passed through the mouth and allows the doctor to see whether there is any damage to the lining of the oesophagus (gullet) or stomach, and whether there are any ulcers in the stomach or duodenum.
The GP will decide when drug treatment alone is sufficient or whether an investigation by gastroscopy at the local hospital is necessary.
The procedure is painless and is usually done under a light sedative as a day-case patient in a specialised endoscopy unit.
Occasionally, after a discussion with the endoscopist, the procedure will be performed without sedation. When sedation is used, the patient will not be able to drive or operate machinery for the rest of the day.
Anyone suffering from stomach problems should consult a doctor who will, in most cases, treat the symptoms without a major examination.

Also indexed as: Stomach Inflammation
Gastritis is a broad term for inflammation of the stomach lining, also called the gastric mucosa.
This condition can be caused by many factors and, in some cases, may lead to an ulcer. For that reason, many of the same nutrients, herbs, and lifestyle changes for a peptic ulcer might also help someone with gastritis
Other causes of gastritis include intake of caustic poisons, alcohol, and some medications (such as aspirin or adrenal corticosteroids), as well as physical stress from the flu, major surgery, severe burns, or injuries. For some people, a drug allergy or food poisoning can cause gastritis

Your case is very typical/ The gastoscopy showed that you are suffering from gastritis, but what about the cause of the nodule of esophagus? when biopsy has been done what is it's report, Is the nodule due to carcinoma ,or just a benign growth
In my opinion you should be very straight to your doctor to ask all your doubts & diagnosis. If a nodule there in oesophagus that has to be removed.
Inflammation of stomach occurs usually due to hyper acidity, irritating foods, alcohal etc.
Your doctor is supposed to bring all the facts about the disease to you, so that the line of treatment can be decided and pertinent treatment is started, you must insist to the doctor for that.

I have serious experience with Stress, caring for 3 dying parents.
The stress caused the beginning of a heart condition. Once that was all over, and my stress was gone so were the heart symptoms.
So try to eliminate the stress from your life if you want to be healthy.
