wow... are you sure it was hers and not just a parents that she was talking on?
There is no way in hell i would give my child a cell phone. If they were 16 the only reason they would need one is if theyre driving, in which case they better have a job to pay for the insurance and phone.

I don't think it's wrong to give or teach a child to properly use a cell phone. In todays society which is obviously more advance than before, we must realise that a cell phone is not what it was a few years ago. If a child is capable of properly using a cell then I see no reason why he should not be given one that can be used IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. I do have a problem though of giving a child one with all the bonus features like camera etc. that the Razr would come with. It should be kept as basic as posible, but if a parent can afford it I guess that they will buy the best for their children.

Well, it might have been a toy.
That young, I'm not real sure it was even really hers if it was real.
I have to admit though, I have thought of buying my daughter one before and just teaching her how to call me, her dad, and 911 on it. I wouldn't give it to her unless it was in a busy area, like Disney or or something like that, but you can never have too much safety for your children.
To buy her one just to have? NO! A Razr? NO!
Look at it in a different light too. She could have been in the restaurant with her Grandparents after spending the night with them or something, and using their phone to call her parents. Maybe they were meeting them there to eat and pick her up to take her back home or something. I could see that happening.

First of all, you don't know for sure that it was hers. Her parents could have lent it to her to contact them while she's a way or something along those lines.
Secondly, if you have a child that goes out a lot with friends or needs rides home a lot, giving them a cellphone would be handy, but not their own. I don't think a kid should have their own phone until they're at least nine years old, and even then, they shouldn't have a Razr. I think their parents just wanted to guarentee the best cell phone for their kid. Maybe they have enough money to not care if their child loses an expensive phone?

I think it is stupid for any kids to have cell phones they need to concentrate on school work. and not friends on the phone all the time I think with out cell phones life would be like it used to be when we where young. use the home phone or pay phone.

My 11 yo just got a cell phone but only because we are turning off the home phone next month and he will be coming home alone this coming school year. Otherwise, he knows not to abuse it. But, if there is a home phone available then I do not think that a child should have a cell phone.

I hate that!, my uncle gave his 8 year old son a mp3 phone, and says ts for security reasons... what in case he gets lost in the backyard?!!! sweet jesus, he's 8, i wasn't allowed a cell until i was 18!! if you are so worried and fell your 8 year old kid needs a cell phone,,, MAYBE HE HAS TOO MUCH FREEDOM!!!!
sorry it just dumbfounds me that 6-7-8 year olds need phones!
i'm 21 and rarely use my cell phone!

The only cell phones I've given my kids (all under age 6) is an old one that doesn't work anymore...I would never give them a REAL one!!! That is CRAZY!

Kids these days are soooooooo spoiled!!!! I think they need an age limit on these cellphones. Its getting out of hand. I don't mind them having one for emergency but not an expensive one. Maybe prepaid so they don't drive up phone bills.

My kids(these who go to school already),including ages 15,12,10 and even 7 have cellphones.The younger don't have because they definitely don't need it.But in school everything happens and so on the way home or in the school bus.
