SMOKERS - Why do you think it is okay to litter your cigarette butts wherever you please?

This is an honest question. Why do smokers feel it is okay to litter their cigarette butts? Over 3 billion butts are littered every year. I am at a loss, so someone please help me understand.

FYI: it's not all smokers some of have enough respect to put them where they belong ,and the ones that dont it's the same as humans doing what they know is wrong they do it just because they get away with it, and could care less about other people,but we get fined down here,and it's the same as littering trash,it's just not acceptable, so for a better question it should have been ,"WHY DO SOME PEOPLE LITTER?"

I think its as okay as non-smokers or smokers throwing any other kind of trash on the ground. People are thoughtless about what they do themselves. I think anytime a person asks why a group does something they really have some personal agenda in mind, usually an attack. Its okay in these PC days to attack smokers. I think that if you are seeing more butts on the ground its because smokers have been pushed outside everywhere. When inside there were ask trays and then trash cans to put your butts, now you're outside and no place but the ground to put butts. I would bet that if you forced everyone who drinks water out of a bottle outside and not put a trash can out there with them you'd see an increase of water bottles laying around. Its just human nature to take the easiest path.

I am A smoker i do not agree with littering in any way and can only say that smokers that litter by throwing their butts on the floor are just lazy people in genaral. The same reason non smokers drop litter on the floor its just down to laziness,

I hate that too. I am a smoker, but I dispose of my cigarette butts in an ashtray or can. I hate driving down the road and having the person in front of me flick their cig out the window. It's actually hit my windshield before. I don't know why these people don't see it as littering - ignorance, probably.

I was just thinking the same thing as a smoker flung her butt out the window and hit my windshield this morning on the highway. If your going to continue that dfisgusting habit, you could have the courtesey to use that ashtray they put in your vehicle, or the millions of trash cans and cigarette recepticles all over the place.

First where did you get the number 3 million from, second last time I checked smokers werent the only people who littered. Granted yes they shouldn't but when there is no place to properly dispose of our cigarettes but, what should we do, put them in our pockets or throw them into trash can where they can start a fire. This is why we throw them into the street. Maybe if politicians cared about our rights maybe we weouldn't have to litter.

When I smoked, I did litter, but of course, to me it was just putting out the cigarette. I'm very sorry. Surely I did not think of others. Maybe placing ash-trays with sand will help at street corners , but the main thing is just picking it up and throwing it out in the trash cans already available...Sorry

I smoke and I don't litter. If there isn't an ash tray, I will put my cig out and take it to a trash can (making sure it is damp so as not to start a fire) and I'm pretty sure most of us are like that. Why do others do the things they do? Not everyone is the same. Some of us are responsible and some of us aren't.

You will never understand because you are a non-smoker. I hate it myself and i'm a smoker. I throw my butts at the side curb or where ever there is a outside bin ashtray. Alot of men my girlfriends and i know ask that too. And we ask them so why do you men spit where ever you please?

Smokers aren't the only ones who litter.

I don't see how this is any worse than people throwing other garbage into the streets. Horrible behavior regardless of whether it's a cigarrette butt, fast food wrapper, diaper, whatever.
