What is the average? Is it normal for the other person to not call when they have friends from out of state visiting them?

We talked everyday...unless something came up or she was busy...but she would give me a heads up before we wouldn't talk...
So, in ur case...if she hasn't been calling due to people visiting her..she has a valid reason not to call and don't sweat it.

Hmm well I talk to my bf that is LDR everyday unless one of us is on vacation or something and we have been going out for almost 2 years :)

at every opportunity they get.but you have to understand that they had friends visiting so they were a little bit preoccupied
