Hi, I have a Sony DCR TRV 22E, I need to use my camera for monitoring only or as a webcam, not recording. How could I prevent my camcorder from shutting down itself? Because usually when not recording the camcorder would shut down to save the battery power. Thanks a lot.

Remove the tape. That shutdown feature is really designed to save the rollers from burning a hole in the tape. Also there might be an option inside of the menu. But for the most part if there is no tape in the camera and the AC adaptor is plugged in, it will stay on indefinately.

Leaving the tape compartment open will accomplish this but it can also allow spills or dust to enter the camcorder. If you are going to do this for an extended period of time you should cover the open tape compartment with something to protect it (plastic baggie taped over the compartment?).
