What do you think of our bizarre accents in Britain?
Such a small space and so many, very different accents?

I love British accents. Ok, I'm sure I don't know all of them, and I can't tell where people are from when they open their mouth (I'm French). But I think they are great! I wish I could tell where people are from just by their accent! I also know that it depends on your social class. But it's true, it's unusual for such a small country to have so many different accents. History...

I particularly like the working-class, Manchester accent. It sounds very manly! But I like them all, I think. Even if I do find it difficult to understand some of them! Like the thick Scottish accent! But I'm improving, and one day will be able to understand them all!

Some are beautiful, while most are difficult to follow. It's unfortunate that I turn away from British television programming because some accents are very stout.

But believe me, I have not experienced the butchering anywhere else that occurs while trying to communicate with some of my fellow citizens. Although English is their only language, it isn't their best means of communicating.

I have personally experienced four distinct accents in America.

I like the variety of accents... I just wish I understood them better. Of course, we have regional accents in the US, and Canadian English is spoken slightly differently than the US. Then you have alll the English variants in the Carribean, so there is some variety in the Western Hemisphere.

You have a few, not sure how many, have we got more. At least we can understand yours.

I have to be honest i don't like american accents i find them creepy, i only like southern texas, geaorgian accent.

Strange cause american accents have no affect on me in movies unless they are being really badly faked.

Why do you think your accents are bizarre? IMO, I think most of them are so cool, although I have difficulty understanding a few.

It is what make you unique. I love the accents. If everyone had the same accent, life would be boring. *smiles*

Aren't you a dit deluded?
Americans have regional accents too, as does everybody else in the world. Because you can't distinguish between subtle differences, foreign accents sound very similar. Could you tell between a New Jersy and New York accent? I'd have trouble, just as an american would have trouble telling a brummie from a yorkshire accent, or scottish from irish.

There's loads of different accent in Dublin alone, for goodness sake. A place the size of the States should have plenty.

I think we're very distinguished.
And for all Americans, I would like to point out, we have been using the word shag since 1066 - around for centuries, not since Austin bloody Powers!!

Shag shag shag shag!

PS - And also, a fanny is a front bottom not your backside!! So there. :p *waves arms in the air*
