The God probably like bad smells of mud and other kinds of rancid as against the pleasant smell given by aromatic substances and perfumes. Worship places and many of the priestly figures are probably mistaken to believe that gods donot like the bad smells. The God seems to like bad smell the most as it is the basis of life of His choice. The pleasant smells emitted at worship places are deathnell to many kinds of living organisms therefore God may put a questionmark on the holiness of very clean class of people which is guided by selfish and unholy instincts. Life is probably possible with dirty things alone.

Exo 20:1 God said to the people of Israel:
Exo 20:2 I am the LORD your God, the one who brought you out of Egypt where you were slaves.
Exo 20:3 Do not worship any god except me.
Exo 20:4 Do not make idols that look like anything in the sky or on earth or in the ocean under the earth.
Exo 20:5 Don't bow down and worship idols. I am the LORD your God, and I demand all your love. If you reject me, I will punish your families for three or four generations.
Exo 20:6 But if you love me and obey my laws, I will be kind to your families for thousands of generations.
Exo 20:7 Do not misuse my name. I am the LORD your God, and I will punish anyone who misuses my name.

Ponds of mud and dung are great for cultivation, but you can use an idol to whack someone on the head and take their money.

I suppose either can be of use.

It is all relative. It is what you grow up with. As long as you acknowledge the true Being..who cares what emblems are used?

Whichever you like. Or none. Take your pick. What is sacred to you?
