I ask to be shown the evidence for a god and people say "Look around you". What am I supposed to be looking at? I see a natural universe, in which all things happen without any apparent need for divine intervention. I see things that are satisfactorily explained by cosmology, and geology, and biology, but no need for theology. I don't see the laws of physics suspended for the benefit of believers in a particular god. I don't see amputated limbs magically restored, or falling planes suspended in mid-air, or evil constrained, not even the most horrific and sadistic torture of the most innocent children. I see plenty of attempts to distort, mis-translate and mis-represent religious scripture in order to claim that 'scientific miracles' are held within their pages, but never any plausible demonstration of divine knowledge. I see plenty of people argue that a created universe needs a creator, but no accompanying evidence that the universe is indeed created.

What should I be seeing?

Sometimes, doesnt it feel like this world and everything in it is just a theater?

When critics watch movies or theatrical shows, do they look at the show only? or do they look behind it? see what the author has tried to convey?

When you walk by a river and see a tree trunk put over for people to cross the other side, you might wonder who actually put it there. Why not ask the same questions for the things you see and take for granted on earth?

The truth is, when scientists claim that they know how things came to be, theyre kidding themselves. Because if the tree came out of the seed, and the seed from the soil, and the soil from earth, and the earth from the stars, and the stars from the big bang, they get stuck: Who made the big bang?

How come all this came to be, from nothing?

Look at the overall design of the planet: the way things balance each other, such as the seasons, the migration of birds, the effect of the moon on the ocean tides, the diversity of species of plants and animals, the cycles of weather. It is a brilliant and marvelous system. It could not have been accidently created.

Think also of the emotions people are capable of feeling and acting upon: Joy, benevolence, sorrow, courage, etc... how could these be explained or measured in terms of hard science? I think there is an unexplainable mystery here, which has different names in each culture, but which refers to the awe we have for the world.

This is a tough question. Please allow me to try to touch you without seeming to attempt to conform you.

The negative things you see around you are supposed to be there. How else would satan have such an easy job swaying you away from God? When a "healthy" baby is born, that is a blessing, right? But when a baby that is deformed is born, some see it as a curse or a punishment, right? Consider this: maybe, just maybe when a baby that is not "normal" is born into this world, his/her purpose runs deeper than the eye can see. God will do things to humble us when He is trying to gently tug us in His direction. It could be possible that a child like "that" had to be born unto those parents in particular for God to show either them or those around them something. Everyone who is alive today has a purpose that needs to be fulfilled for God. (an example)

Let me attempt one more example. Maybe you have a friend who tried to commit suicide at one time. And maybe you were there to stop him/her. Your presence served God's purpose in preventing the demise of your friend. God will use us for His desires. If you had not been born, if you had not seen those less fortunate, if you had not gone through whatever you went through in your life, maybe you would not have been able to say the right words or do the right thing needed to save your friend. (remember, just an example)

Satan will try so many subtle things to get us to think God does not exist or does not love us. Don't let him win. Every time you get home safe, God was evident around you. Every time someone you love gets hurt or sick and heals or gets well again, that's God too. Make no mistake, God is always around us, like the air. We can feel Him if we allow ourselves to be "intune" with Him. God loves you and I believe He will answer this question for you in the near future. Keep your heart open for the answer. :-)

The fact that you are a living, breathing person that came from a tiny cell, should convince you. Also, you have taste buds in order to enjoy endless varieties of foods? How about the thumbs on your hands--Try picking up or holding objects without them. How about your brain, which is like a giant computer than has the ability to learn and retain volumes of information. --and your heart; Does it work for you without you having to tell it too? Your eyes see in living color--what if you only saw things in black & white? And then we have the wonderful thing called gravity--where would you be without that? The earth stays just far enough away from the sun so that we do not burn up. We always have four seasons. What makes them consistant? We have the moon & stars to give us light at night. Rainbows, beautiful flower gardens, snow capped mountains and all five senses we were created with in order to enjoy them all.
"For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:"Romans 1:20

Just like some people see what they want to see, others can't see what they refuse to. Science can explain the logical in this life, but it does nothing for the illogical. If there is nothing logical in your life, life may be passing you by.

God is evident in his people and the work they do. God is evident in the beauty the world contains for no other reason than to be seen (not to mention the ability to see it). God is evident after the doctor tells young people that they can't have children and then their first son is born. God is evident when someone shows kindness to those that hate them.

I think the key word is that you don't see any "apparent need"

if you don't believe, then fine - I wouldn't accept anybody trying to force their beliefs on you. Those who truly believe do so because they have had a spiritual experience. They therefore can not prove to you a spiritual existence because it is by nature a very private matter. If you have not experienced anything spiritual, then you have no reason to believe.

All I ask of others is to consider the possibility of a spiritual world (just like physicists consider the possibility of other dimensions)

No, that may no longer information. information must be information. i've got defined evolution in great element, in connection with precisely what you reported, actually dozens of time in this board. And no scientist (no actual one) claims to have the potential to instruct, or be conscious of for a reality that the massive Bang is the way it occurred. the massive Bang is what we call "an extremely extremely solid, specific, real looking wager.", no longer a reality. Evolution is a reality. Cells did no longer "Create themselves", morals have been anthropologically defined, and people did no longer evolve concurrently all over the worldwide. Our ancestors have been Apes, no longer monkeys, in case you don't be conscious of the variation, you're way out of your intensity, faith got here to be because of the fact people experience a might desire to describe issues they do no longer understand, and once you ask a gaggle of goat-herding primitive idiots how each thing got here to be, they're going to arise with a ghost tale, it extremely is how faith got here approximately. we don't ignore approximately information. You mis-label twist of fate as information.

I, personally, would see a beuaitufl world filled with anture and beauty, but - moreover - the amazing concept of an infinite universe filled with planets and stars millions of lightyears away from us, and the amazing idea of this one small planet home to hudnreds of creatures and where mankind leads their own separate lives - going about day to day within the icnredible and fascianting world.

God says in the qur'an:

"Verily in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day - there are indeed signs for men of understanding; Men who remember Allah, standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and contemplate the creation of the heavens and the earth (with the thought) "Our Lord! Not for nothing have You created (all) this. Glory to You! Give us salvation from the suffering of the Fire."

Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is God's power for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek.
Rom 1:17 For in it God's righteousness is revealed from faith to faith, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith.
Rom 1:18 For God's wrath is revealed from heaven against all godlessness and unrighteousness of people who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth,
Rom 1:19 since what can be known about God is evident among them, because God has shown it to them.
Rom 1:20 From the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what He has made. As a result, people are without excuse.
Rom 1:21 For though they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became nonsense, and their senseless minds were darkened.
Rom 1:22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools
Rom 1:23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man, birds, four-footed animals, and reptiles.
Rom 1:24 Therefore God delivered them over in the cravings of their hearts to sexual impurity, so that their bodies were degraded among themselves.
Rom 1:25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served something created instead of the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
Rom 1:26 This is why God delivered them over to degrading passions. For even their females exchanged natural sexual intercourse for what is unnatural.
Rom 1:27 The males in the same way also left natural sexual intercourse with females and were inflamed in their lust for one another. Males committed shameless acts with males and received in their own persons the appropriate penalty for their perversion.
Rom 1:28 And because they did not think it worthwhile to have God in their knowledge, God delivered them over to a worthless mind to do what is morally wrong.
Rom 1:29 They are filled with all unrighteousness, evil, greed, and wickedness. They are full of envy, murder, disputes, deceit, and malice. They are gossips,
Rom 1:30 slanderers, God-haters, arrogant, proud, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,
Rom 1:31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, and unmerciful.
Rom 1:32 Although they know full well God's just sentence--that those who practice such things deserve to die--they not only do them, but even applaud others who practice them.
