Various reasons come to mind. It could be a matter of pride or shame or embarrassment or it could be just a matter plain and simple they may feel it is none of your business. Human beings are funny creatures by times and it is hard to know exactly what is going on their minds all of the time.
So if you ask someone their age and they choose not to tell you just say "okay it doesn't matter I was just curious" and let it go at that, you'll be doing them and yourself a big favor by not getting them or yourself rialed up.

I'm not sure. Most people do it because they believethey're old, but it's all physcological and I don't see the point in it really.
Thoguh I respect some people don't like to admit "how old they are" most of the time their age isn't awfula nd people don't care.
It seems voer the years - telling people your age has been put on a bit of a epdastool and is made an uneccessarily big fuss over.

In many cultures it's more or less the first thing you ask/tell on meeting someone. So, not everyone is like the Americans/WEst Europeans in this regard. I live in Thailand. In Thai, you use different forms of address for people younger/older than you. It's therefore very important to know whether people are older or younger. Similarly, here, 'fat', 'short', 'tall', 'thin' are used as matter-of-fact terms to describe people.

people dont say their age for a lot of reasons maybe coz they may not be taken seriously or maybe they want to feel younger or maybe they jus dont want to share it. It also considered rude t o ask someone their age and i wonder where that idea came from.
I personally dont have a problem. Im happily married and abt to be a dad and i dont need to prove anything to anybody by concealing or lying abt my age.

Because...I think, deep down, we NEVER grow-up....and sometimes this is the only way people can still 'see what they can get away with'. Or...they're so old they really don't know!!!! Maybe they don't like to admit it to themselves - like saying it out-loud suddenly confirms it. Or it could be the situation. Some say I look young...and sometimes I feel the need (professionally) to assure people that I know what I'm doing....I'm older then I look. Or moreover, I know what YOUR doing.
Personally...I always wondered why people don't say they are OLDER then they are....that way, we would all look FANTASTIC "for our age". Good question! Thanks for asking.

Probably because they will be judged for it. I am hesistant to mention my age, 19, as I worry that people will disregard my opinion because I am young.
