because women like to think they have a man not a boy....man gives more a strong powerful image. Likewise, men say girl, cuz they like to think they are more powerful and the protector and provider. SO it just fits with societal perception of men and women images.

I think it has to do with "ego". The ego of a man-they want to be a "man" and the female realizes this and respects it. Maybe we have heard it so much but it just seem natural to hear???? A woman's ego, however, does not want to accept the age thing. She wants to be thought of as still young and the man (or society) will respect this and speak in those terms. No disrespect to either--just an explanation.

"Man" indicates power, independence and maturity. "Girl" indicates weakness, dependency and immaturity. It has traditionally, been a cultural habit for male-dominated societies to emphasize the dominance and authority of the male over the female. It has become ingrained into the speech and behavior of the people.

It is a part of the old warped mentality. Men were thought of as
leaders at 1 time. And women were viewed as sub-servant &
weaker & immature as girls.(needing guidiance)
Women preferred to be viewed as helpless.
Today it's a new world, but old habits die hard.

Because the girl is probably still a young girl.
I call my wife "my woman" and tell her she's a "good woman", Although I do say I like to play with her "girl stuff"

Ego Ego Ego. they want to be big and strong and usually we want to be considered young and desirable. Does " this is my old lady" make you feel good? no, but the fact that you are young and cute makes you feel better. It doesnt make you any less intelligent. It doesnt degrade you in any way. it is just the way it is.
