Sin theoretically( I mean if you look at the scriptural defenition) is something one is forbidden to do. The religious standards of a deed referred to as a sin are that if somebody is hurt mentally, physically or emotionally by you or your words, then this act is called SIN.
If I am permitted to state my own definition of a sin, then I would say that its an act that makes me feel guilty after I have done it..
Because I believe that there is a component of God in me, as it is in every one else that warns me of every action before I could perform it. In the case of a sin, that voice still comes to my rescue just before the I can act but its I who deliberately pushes it down in order to satisfy my ego or my act( which later on is referred to as the sin).

Sin is a concept concocted by ancient men to control the behavior of others.
The origin of the word involved a rival tribe of those who wrote the Bible. The rival tribe worshipped a deity known as 'Sin', which then became associated with anything bad by the writers of the Bible.

We were born into sin after Adam and Eve chose to believe Satan's lie and became separated from God (spiritually). God knew beforehand that man would turn away from Him thus leaving man with a feeling of incompleteness. We go through life trying to find answers and 'things' to fill this emptiness that we have. Hence, 'sin' is separation from God, however, God made provision for man to come back into His family by accepting the Gift He gave us through His Son Jesus dying on the cross and taking all our sins with Him. We can receive a gift, but unless we accept it and claim it as ours, it doesn't really belong to us. If we continue to reject God's invitation, this is called Sin. He didn't make us as puppets, just to pull a string and have us come to Him, He offers us eternal salvation by our acceptance of Jesus' sacrifice.

I'm Catholic. The definition of sin is turning away from God. It is nothing more than a bad act that separated one from God. Officially, it is:
Sin is an offence against reason, truth, and right conscience; it is a failure in genuine love for God and neighbour caused by a perverse attachment to certain goods.... It has been defined [by St Augustine] as "an utterance, a deed, or a desire contrary to the eternal law."
Sin is an offence against God.... Sin sets itself against God's love for us and turns our hearts away from it. Like the first sin, it is disobedience, a revolt against God through the will to become "like gods," knowing and determining good and evil. Sin is thus "love of oneself even to the contempt of God."

'Sin' is doing something (even in basic terms thinking approximately it) that is going 'against God' ... and all of us 'sin' daily whether all of us are conscious of it or no longer ... and for this reason Jesus died on the pass ... he died to learn the forgiveness of God for ALL of our sins, that's very sturdy FOR US, even in spite of the undeniable fact that we could continually nevertheless 'attempt' to stay a existence that's as 'loose from sin as is feasible' for us 'people.' for this reason there is the 'asserting' enable him who's without SIN forged the 1st stone' ... via fact no count how 'sturdy' we predict of we are, we've 'sinned' and characteristic been forgiven via God for it, even that very day, so we could continually no longer 'do some thing against a sinner' via fact he has sinned ... Sin isn't 'committing against the regulation' although ... although maximum crimes are additionally sins. Being 'punished' via guy for against the regulation committed does not exchange something with God ... in basic terms 'acknowledging the sin' to God and asking him for forgiveness can 'try this' ... and there is not any way all and sundry can 'tell' what all and sundry else is doing in THAT REGARD from what they say or perhaps 'do' ... in basic terms GOD is often used with, so we could continually be 'careful' yet we could continually additionally 'have confidence interior the Lord' ...

They used to use the term SIN in archery contests. It means
missing the mark. Coming up short.
Personally. I think sin is knowing when one is doing wrong and
doing it anyway.

Sin goes against God. God gave us His word in the Bible. So what the Bible says is wrong is sin.
