I can only say my FAVOURITE beach in the UK is Harlyn Bay, Cornwall, (Near Padstow on the north coast). It's where I learnt to swim and surf as a child.
The area around the beach shows signs of settlement going back to the iron age, but the beach itself is remarkably timeless owing to the fact that very few houses are visible from it. There's roughly 2/3 of a mile of sand, and at low tide the view is stunning. Just to top it all off, there's even an island a couple of miles out to sea just to give you something to look at whilst you're on the sand. It's a truly beautiful location, although sadly is absolutely packed in the summer months.

My favourite is on Anglesey - it is called Niwbwrch (Newborough) and is a huge beach going out to a peninsula which has beautiful rocks, grasses and wildlife and some old fishermen's cottages and a lighthouse at the end - more beach sweeps on on the other side of the peninsula, which, beware, gets cut off by the tide! It has everything - clean sand, rock pools, sand dunes... but is quite chilly for swimming! You get to it through Forestry Commission land (one downside, I think you need to pay a small amount to go in, but it goes to protecting the area) and they provide a large carpark with clean loos. Go if you get the chance, it is just wonderful!

Bamburgh in Northumberland
If has fine soft sand, long beaches of it, it has dunes behind the beach it has rock pools further down the beach and it sits in front a castle.
It doesn't have hot dog stands and beach front shops. It doesn't have a car park behind the beach with kids playing loud music, there are no amusment arcades.

Cullercoats in North Tyneside. The sand is clean, there are not that many people around, hardly any chavs and you can see both St Mary's Lighthouse at Whitley Bay and the pier at South Shields (at a distance) for free!

Tenby, South Wales. There are loads of beautiful beaches round about. Absolutely spotless too!

All beaches on the North Coast of Scotland in Caithnessand Sutherland. Only problem is its too cold tosit on em so they are deserted. Wonderful!
