There is no real answer to this question but what I have learned of what love is to me and that is the word LOVE itself holds the answer.......
(L)isten: and validate them by hearing and empathizing.
(O)verlook: their minor character flaws as they will overlook yours.
(V)alue: who they are and what they mean to you.
(E)xpress: how you love them not just with words but with actions.

Love is a grand notion created by dreamers and philosophers. It's a word that is both meaningful and meaningless. People believe it's such a powerful word, and it is, because, unadulterated, true love is a wonderous entity. But... it's meaningless because most of us throw the word around way too often, too soon, too insignifcantly, depreciating the value of the sentiment itself.
What is love? I wouldn't know.
I know what I want love to be though. I've said this I don't even know how many times now... but... love is when... he brings you a blanket when you're sleeping. When he cooks for you when you're sick, even if he can't cook at all. When he knows you're busy or stressed and goes out to buy a gift, for no reason at all except to see you smile. When he wants to give everything for you but wants nothing in return, except your happiness.
That's what love is. Too often do I see people declaring love for one another, and don't even know what the word truly means. Too often are people in the relationship to receive, or give&receive, not just with the pure intention of giving their hearts and minds for their lovers.
Love... is often described as something undefineable. And, to an extent, it isn't easily defined. But... I suppose... it's sacrifice. I've read questions on this forum that asks why love has to hurt... well... it's because it isn't love without pain. If it doesn't hurt, it most likely doesn't mean as much to you. For you to be truly in love, you worry every day about your lover's well-being. You feel their pain, you feel the pain of letting them go. You let them leave when they feel it's time, and you live with those decisions because you want what's best for them... and not you. It's when you allow your heart to bleed so that your loved one can heal.
That's what I believe love is. How do you get it? You can't. It's not something you can decide to obtain, and just get it. Love doesn't work that way... if you were meant to be among the few that are in love, it'll just happen. You wouldn't even know... until one day, you wake up, and you feel this feeling, deep in the pit of your heart and soul, that you're in love and would give life itself for the person who you share your life and essence with.
How do you "get" love... befriend new people. your soulmate may be among the strangers you see daily. Perhaps not. I'm not too optimistic regarding love, but life is full of uncertainties. Perhaps you'll one day fall into it, hopelessly, and just know that that person is the one.

Love..
Some say its a blade, that leaves ur soul to blead
Some say its a river, that drowns the tender reed
others say its some kind of insanity,
I say love is a flower, and u its only seed... like a rose that arose from concret..
How u get it?
In every person, there is a special place for that special somebody... get to know someone, touch them in that special place n youll have it...

When I first met my fiancee i knew that he was the one that i would spend the rest of my life with... it took me almost 2 weeks to actually go up and talk to him because of the butterflies in my stomach, now we joke about the first time we seen eachother and how we both wanted to talk to eachother but both of us were to scared and shy too.. Have you ever seen someone and you couldn't talk, you blushed all the time you seen them or you would grin from ear to ear and not even notice it. Love isn't anything you buy it just comes to you. Its a feeling deep inside you, when you least expect it you will fall in love with someone you least expect and from that point on you will be in 7th heaven and that will be one more thing you can mark off your list.
