Consult a personal trainer to see if they can help you with target areas. The gym wasn't successful for me until I started really focusing on target spots.

You should first controll eating fatty foods.
Try to include more fruits and vegetables in your diet.
Perform yoga, like uthita padasana, bhujangasana etc. These are quite simple.

The first one, just lay flat on back on a flat surface then lift your limbs simultaneously from the ground gradually upto a height of say 2ft. keep them for a few seconds and gradually put them together to ground. Do this for a no of times. Gradually increase the duration of time keeping the limbs up at 2feet.

The second one, lay flat at front facing the floor on a flat surface, then gradually lift your head along with body upto belly without the help of your hand. Here also you have to do gradually up and gradually down.

Important thing is that while performing these you should be in empty stomach.

So try to do in regularly. The preferred time is early morning. They also have good effect on keeping you fit. Don't do yoga and exercise simultaneously. At least there should be one hour gap between them. Wish you good luck.

Is the weight fat or muscle ?

If you have been doing a lot of leg exercises with weights, or short step exercises like the Stairmaster, and your BMI does not indicate that you are overweight, you may be inadvertently building the part of your body you want to shrink.

While spot reducing of fat is difficult, spot reducing of muscle can be done by working on other areas of the body, and doing regular stretches of the bulky area. If you Stairmaster, you might want to switch to running or rowing - if you do a lot of leg weights, you should cut back.

With all that, some people are just "hippy", or as I like to call myself "bootilicious" :) Its something that turns a lot of guys on, so its not the worst problem to have !

See the link below...it could be a chemical imbalance related to or directly attributable to your thyroid gland function.

Ask your physician for a thyroid blood screen...he may prescribe medication to treat any imbalances. The thyroid affects metabolism...thus it contributes to weight gain or weight loss.

hard, if not impossible, to spot reduce. ... always best answer is excersize and water. do muscle toning excersizes for that area (squats with weights, the ball is amazing for that area, feet up on a couch or bed and pelvic thrust, etc.) and arobic/cardio to burn off overall fat. Bout as good as it gets without lipo.
