About your Kitten: The Bombay is a gorgeous, sleek, jet black cat with round, vivid gold or Cooper eyes. A medium-sized animal, the Bombay has short fur and a solid body. Its head is round, with chubby cheeks and a short, strong muzzle. The ears and eye are set wide apart. The kittens off this breed have blue eyes at birth; these change to gray and then to the adult copper or gold. The Bombay is friendly, alert, and outgoing. This cat is very vocal, craves attention, and seldom stops purring.
The Bombay is a hybrid produced from crossing the Burmese and the black American Short hair. The breed emerged in 1958 a pure black American Shorthair was mated with a sable Burmese. Because of its resemblance to the black Indian leopard, this breed was named the Bombay.
Look into the British Short hair also. The eye color could mean all of the differenc!
The best of my research. :) Cat

Many cat breeds have the Siamese moderate wedge that you seem to be describing, so your cat might have the genetics of any of them, including Russian Blue, Javanese, etc.
Buying a pet from a petstore is ALWAYS a BAD idea as these animals are bred in cruelty, and you are giving your money to further animal abuse of your kittens' sire and dam and many others.
That said, it is not your kitten's fault how it was bred, so enjoy it and don't do it again! Spread the word to shut down puppy mills and kitten farms AND backyard breeders.
To find a good breeder, here is a page of guidelines:

Having got him from a pet shop, have you had the vet look him over? They are generally not good places for animals. If you eventually decide to get another cat to keep him company, try a local cat rescue centre. They are much more caring, being there for the animals' benefit, not for profit, and you may well find they've already had the cat neutered and even vaccinated for you. Any donation you are asked to make will be well worth the money for that reason, let alone the knowledge that you're helping a really good cause.
By the way he sounds like a "mog standard" cat to me!

For that price, what you have is a mixed breed, a moggie, a mutt. Or a Domestic Shorthair. Pure bred cats in the US cost about $300.00 minimum. 4UK pounds. (sorry American keyboard) is about $12.00 right?
This is not a bad thing. That is the kind of cat I have. These cats do everything a Pure breed cat does, shed, meow, scratch, love, and give exactly the same amount of attitude. I got my cat at a half price sale and she still acts like the queen of the world.

Or it might be European Shorthair... Check it our from here: http://www.affinity-petcare.com/ing/htm/gatos/razas/razas_e.asp?area=3
There are other breeds too, you can look around. If you don't get a pedigree, though, it's most likely something like this one.
Doesn't matter much if it is a moggy, though - my cat is one (no pedigree whatsoever) and he is superb - friendly, nice, sociable, extremely intelligent (how many cats have you see that stopped misbehaving at the verbal threat that they will spend the night alone if they continue what they are doing? Well, mine does that, among other feats), playful, and, when necessary, independent and well-behaved when I need to take a trip... not capricious as to what food I give him, and healthy... so, domestic shorthair should do quite well :)

Hi there...most likely it is a domestic short hair. To confirm this fact, his littermates would look different than him if you had a chance to see them. Bombays are black cats which are a purebred which has a very round head with bright copper eyes (http://www.fanciers.com/breed-faqs/bombay-faq.html) and usually have to be purchased from a private breeder.

Pedigree cats cost more than £4, he is a moggy. Pedigree cats will cost you anything from £150 upwards, I paid £350 for each of my Burmese cats.

At a guess, a British shorthair - this covers most short haired cats which are not a recognised pedigree such as 'Siamese'.

probably an English domestic cat, or if you rather a Heinz 57. It's obviously NOT a pedigree for that price.
