That is a really good point.
For the Christians who missed it the point was "Why were they expected to do the right thing when they didn't even know the difference between right and wrong?"

Various religions teach that obedience to God is good, disobedience to Him is evil. All other concepts of men about good and evil are false. God says not to tell lie, will man tell lie and say that he is innocent?
Adam and Eve had been taught not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge. They ate it, that is disobedience, that is evil.
Before that they had no knowledge, after that still they didn't have.
True knowledge is knowledge of God. They chose to eat the fruit, they intentionally denied that divine knowledge.
Mankind today are the same; they don't know that disobedience to God is evil; if they choose to disobey Him, it means they choose to deny true knowledge, they are not irresponsible for that decision.
The parent tells the child not to eat the poisonous fruit, he decides to eat it, is it a good act or innocent act? Yes, the child may suspect his parent's wisdom; may man also suspect God's wisdom?

I see what you're getting at - they were only told that they were forbidden to eat of it, but they weren't told specifically that it would be wrong to disobey. However, Adam refused to eat from the tree, didn't he? If so, this would imply some sort of knowledge that to eat from it would be wrong. I guess you'd have to look at the actual text to see whether there are any indications of knowledge before the fact. As I recall, they did tell the truth about it, but they hid themselves from God first, so they sure knew the difference at that point.

I don't get hung up on the details of whether it really happened or not, but I do look at the underlying moral story...
It demonstrates that the desire to be equal to God is a weakness in human character; they lust for the knowledge that God has.... And isn't that is our biggest problem on the planet right now, religion?
If you look at the Bible as a screenplay and not as the "indisputable word of God," it makes so much sense....I believe when all is said and done, it is a book from God to demonstrate how ridiculous religion is, and how it is NOT the answer..... Universal love is.

Maybe Adam and Eve knew that to eat from the Tree was against God's will because God told them so(Genesis 2:17).
Why do atheists ask such dumb questions?

The Lord God commanded the man, `You may freely eat of every tree of the garden; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die.`

Leaving aside the fact that 'Adam and Eve' is mythology, not reality, they would have to be created imperfect in order to be disobedient, so their creator must have known and intended that they disobey him, and that makes him responsible.
