Absolutely! It is a tad hypocritical of me, as my own spelling is pretty atrocious, but the damn thing has a spell checker! it only takes a couple of clicks!
What really gets to me is the number of people who write in TXT speak! Truncations and contractions make sense when you are using a non-qwerty keypad and are charged by the length of the message, but not in this context!
(I am a lecturer, and some of the Vicky Pollards in my class actually hand in assignments written like that!)

I don't think a lot of them are spelling mistakes, a lot are typing errors, we are not used to typing or reading so much that others have typed, so we are not used to seeing all the mistakes. When you type, much of the time you wont notice unless you re read. someone at another site had something where the typing was deliberately misspelled in such a way that you could read it as if it wasn't, because your mind looks ahead and puts it all together for you by association.
I am sure if we had a sculpting competition we would see some horrors, different people have different skills, so spelling like some geekmeister, isn't going to be a skill too many people need.
I am always "righting" their instead of there, or here instead of hear. I know the difference but just unconsciously swap them sometimes

Well no actually for the simple reason that not all regions especially in Scotland use the same spelling as others in the UK. Such an example 'Ead... head, Quine.. girl. M' Loone...boy. Furry aboots... where abouts. Yersel.... yourself. I am sure there are many more examples.
But I understand what you are saying and yes I do wince and very much so when it's my spelling mistake. None of us are infallible against such things happening.
But it is when people make no effort what-so-ever to try and spell a word correctly and use pidgin English instead Grrrrrrrrrrr!

YES I DO ! ! ! I think the standard of spelling here is absolutely appalling, especially when there's a spell-check facility (albeit with some silly yankee spellings viz they want OFFEN-S-IVE to be OFFENCIVE) so you can't win them all! I make no apologies for telling the writers of their mis-spellings although it always seems to upset them. Well, the answer's in their own hands, isn't it?

Yes, with the availability of programs to check spelling, not only in here, but through cut and paste from from an email program, there really is not reason for it. As for myself, I often spell it right, but use the wrong word.

Nah - people are usually in a bit of a hurry when they respond/post on any kind of forum..
I generally don't judge people - but if there's a spell checker available - why not use it?
Cheerio,

Not at all. the same way it does not bother me if someone is having a hard time with language skills. I hurts me to see them struggle, but doesn't bother me negatively.
I think you get the point and can figure out on your own what people are trying to convey, so maybe we could all focus on trying to help, rather than focusing on their short comings.

Look at the poster 'englands glory'.
This is the sort of oaf you get here, in abundance.
It is indicative of the majority of posters and that they are of below-average IQ.
It's not a crime.
Either accept it or don't come here.
It CAN be good sport to bait them!

Yes, sometimes it's understandable, if someone overseas is asking a question (usually about immigration laws).
But for english speaking people, what do they think the PREVIEW bit is for?
