to do with the world war, it is respectful to close the eyes of the dead, because there where so many soldiers left in no mans land the act of closing your blinds symbolised the closing of all the soldiers eyes......thats what i learnt in school anyway, hope it helps.

Everyone deals with death in their own personal way. Sometimes people close their curtains out of respect while others may close them out of denial. While yet others feel indifferent about closing their curtains. Every human being on this planet has their own personal way of handling death. Some people shut down, while others get drunk. Some people want to be left alone while others want to be with others. It's a matter of preference you could say.
Good luck and I hope this was helpful in your understanding. Have a great day!

I don't do it, if anything I do my best to avoid them or speed by them. That sounds disrespectful, I don't mean it that way, but seriously--why should I have to stop living because a stranger happened to pass away? Death happens everyday, you can't possibly mourn all of them nor should one be expected to even if they could.
Seriously, when I die, I don't want them having a procession for me. Let my family pay their last respects for me at the burial site, don't inconvenience others who never knew me who are still living their life and trying to do so productively.

it is a form of respect. also that its something that you dont want to see or think about when you are trying to close a business deal.
sort of like drawing the curtains on the end or something.

I don't do that. I get out a big Kazoo and put on my Uncle Sam costume and run out and strut alongside the hearse singing "As the Saints Go Marching In"

Yeah, I think it's either superstition or fear probably. Maybe to seal off the entrance so Death can't enter?! However, I can't actually say I've seen anyone ever do it so maybe the trend is dying out.

The only etiquette I'm aware of is that any passing servicemen/women have to salute the coffin.
