Of course it is not "wrong". The religions of the world and and their prophets and rules and structures are there to lead us to the truth of the reality of Spirit in ourselves, in others, in everything. Direct prayer, without an orthodox format, is then from the heart, your own spirit, and is far more preferable than standard prepared prayers, and you are closer to God than you think. Consider youself blessed to not be burdened by books and rules and structure. It is a question of the purity of your intent. THOSE are the prayers that get answers, and you will grow in your knowledge of the absolute, which is in us and in everything, by leaps and bounds, provided you don't commit yourself and your relation to God to anyone else's format or way. All the great teachers have pointed to this. Then the followers, the denominations, the sects, the interpreters, etc., build their own movie about it, according to their own prejudices and conditioning. Religion is a burden to overcome, more often than not, to any real contact with the spirit. Your own way is the best way. Keep it pure.

Then how would you know that what does God want you to do ...???? how ill-logical you are .....which manual of do and donts would you follow ....
Brother if you believe in God then you must also believe that God communicates with us at a higher level through a person chosen by him...we call them messengers of God who convey the message to God....they are given a manual for our benifits in which all the do and donts are mentioned....and the last last such manual is the glorious Quran ...and the last messenger is Muhammad (peace be upon him)..

Hi mad!! :o) I hope you're OK. As far as I am concerned - nothing could be more pleasing to God than to know that you believe in Him AND talk to Him. That's what God wants from us. I also believe that 'religion' was created by MAN and NOT by God. It was 'religion' that made it difficult for me to believe in God. So - like you - I don't follow a specific 'religion' either. I am a Christian [which simply means that I believe in and at least TRY to follow Jesus] but I'm not a 'Baptist' or 'Catholic' or Lutheran' or any other 'religion'. Craig!! :o)

It's not morally wrong, but it is an error in the sense that you're believing something which doesn't exist.

All reasoned arguments rely on axioms, i.e. things which we take to be true, but which are not amenable to proof. The most obvious example of an axiom is the validity of reason itself - It is trivially obvious that we can't use a reasoned argument to prove that reason is valid, because we have to presume that reason is valid in order to make any kind of reasoned argument.

I have another axiom, which I'm sure no sane person would dispute: That the order and complexity that we see around us in the natural universe, and particularly in the intricate structure and functions of living organisms, could not possibly just exist fully formed, with no cause, no origin, no precursor of any sort. I can't *prove* that this is the case, but it seems inconceivable to me that anyone would dispute it.

So, the logical consequence of accepting this axiom is that, for the very same reason, it's not possible that the order and complexity of the universe is sourced in an intelligent deity who designed and made the universe and *himself* exists fully formed with no cause, no origin, no precursor of any sort. I don't think any reasonable person would dispute the axiom presented here, and acceptance of the axiom leads to an indisputable proof of the non-existence of an intelligent creator.

Anyone who (against all reason) asserted that the order and complexity we see in the universe *could* indeed exist fully formed with no cause and no origin, in order thereby to save the concept of an uncaused intelligent designer, would find that they had invalidated said designer by making him redundant - i.e. if the order and complexity of the universe could just exist fully formed and uncaused then it would not need (in fact, could not possibly have) a designer to cause it to exist.

Either way, the concept of a creator is invalidated.

If you pray to God, it is fine. There is no need to involve yourself in the dispute of religions and their sects. God will tell you, in your heart, that what is right and what is wrong. Religions too tell you the same thing that you should pray to God. But there are so many religions and so many sects that it has become rather impossible to judge who is right and who is wrong as every one claims that he is right and all others are wrong.

No you are not wrong at all...
You are right now what we call non - denominational. Meaning that you don't belong to any specific organized religion. It doesn't say in the bible that you have to be a certain "religion". You should check out a few churches in your area that are non denominational as well as a few that aren't and see where you are most comfortable.

There's nothing wrong with prayer - regardless of whether or not you follow a religion or belong to a religious affiliate.

Prayer is, at best, communicating with God. At worst, it's an exercise in meditation - either way, you feel better and no one gets hurt.
