Rh factor is an antigen(protein ) in the Red Blood cells and those who have it are called Rh+. Those who haven't are called Rh-. A person with Rh- blood does not have Rh antibodies naturally in the blood plasma (as one can have A or B antibodies, for instance). But a person with Rh- blood (receiver)can develop Rh antibodies in the blood plasma if he or she receives blood from a person with Rh+ blood(donor), whose Rh antigens can trigger the production of Rh antibodies. A person with Rh+ blood(recipient) can receive blood from a person with Rh- blood(donor) without any problems since there are no antigens in Rh -ve blood so no antibodies will be formed against Rh -ve blood (donor). So Rh -ve donor can give blood to both Rh -ve & Rh +ve recipient of matching blood groups.Hope this will help u.

The previous answer is pretty good. Rh positve people have an antigen on their red blood cells, also referred to as type D. Rh negative people do not have this antigen. When a person lacking a given any given blood type antigen (there ar more than 20), and recieves blood or a blood product with that antigen, they become sensitized and develop an antibody to that antigen, any further exposre to that particular antigen can be fatal. This is what makes O negative blood the universal donor, People with this blood type do not have antigens for A, B or Rh and thus will not sensitize any other person against these types. The other Rh negative blood types, A, B and A,B can only donate to a positve of the same ABO type.

Your fine. They just give you rhogam. The only people that doctors now worry is females of child bearing age, because it might cause miscarriage. In US hospitals sometimes O pos is given to males and sometimes elderly females despite if they are RH positive or negative. The reactions for rh incompatibility is ussually less than if A blood is given to an O patient. And you need repeated exposure to positive blood to make you sick. Your body must have seen RH positive blood to develop antibodies. That means your body would not be prepared to attack RH positive blood. The second time it sees it then you can start worrying.

I am RH negative. I know I can only receive the same.
My daughter was born positive, so after the day after she was born they gave me a needle in my butt to counter attack aniti bodies in my blood that may cause a future miscarriage in the future. If my daughter were born with the same blood type as me, they would not have to inject me. After my second daughter, also rhpositive was born, they did not give me an injection so it would be dangerous for me to get pregnant again. I took permanent measures to not have any more children because I do not want any more.

I am not anemic. I am very healthy. I lift weights, workout, etc. Sometimes take vitamins, but I have a healthy lifestyle. Blood type is just that, only a blood type, not to be confused with anything else, as others may suggest.

being RH negative usually means that you are also anemic ...so for the most part they won't let you donate ...when rh negative an dpregnant they give you an antibody shot to avoid baby's possible posite type enter your blood stream so I know it can be deadly to receive positive when you are actually negative.

when you give an Rh negative person Rh positive blood, the body can reject it, therefore it would not be useful. As in the pregnant mom who is Rh negative, she needs Rhogam shots so her body doesn't reject a possible Rh positive baby.
