If the universe was literally created in 7 days then how is it possible that we can see galaxies which are millions of light years away? It seems obvious to me that the universe must be at least as old as the distance in light years to the furtherest galaxy that we can see.

Many of you didn't read the question. It was for those who literally believe that the universe was made in 7 earth days, making it 7 days plus ~6000 years old. Faith is the evidence of things not seen, but stupidity is believing despite evidence to the contrary. I believe god created the universe millions of years ago and this does not in any way conflict with scripture. There is no conflict between pure science and pure religion. The conflict arises when psuedoscience meets pseudoreligion.

Yeah, Heather has it right.

What exactly IS a day to a God?

Perhaps one of His days is like 100,000,000 years to us.

If you are a student of the big bang, you will note that from a object the size of an apple, the explosion expanded to the size of the orbit of the earth in less than 1/100 the of a second.
Light reaches us from the sun in 8 min.

The idea or concept of 1000 years to us is one day to God and 1 Day is 1000 years is just a way for humans to get there mind around it.

The creation of this earth and the destruction and reforming of the earth is in the first 2 verses of Gen 1:1 and Gen 1:2

God took as long as he needed to from the creation of the Word of God John 1:1
To the creation of THE Adam in Gen 2

Quite frankly, to measure ANYTHING (time, age, etc.) in terms of MILLIONS is unprovable and undocumentable. Scientists can guess, and suppose, and assume, and presume, and even (in their minds) conclude such things. But has anyone ever been around for even 1 million years to say that that's how long it took for that light to reach earth? We don't have any reach back into time except that which was recorded (written), The rest remains pure speculation on the part of men's limitedness, even when labeled scientific fact. If man is truly unable and unavailable for the time frame to measure such things, then man cannot prove the measurement..
Seeing that men are limited and God is not, there is no shame in believing God's Word. After all, He knows much more than we could ever know, eh?

I'm not religious, but even if galaxies are light years away, it is because the Universe is EXPANDING. It has expanded exponentially since the beginning (big bang, creation, whatever) and is probably still expanding as we speak now, so galaxies that are light years away now may have been only a few miles away from our galaxy at the beginning.

Yes but the bible does say that God stretched out the universe and its stars. So then explaining how we can see stars that take billions of years for us to see. Also this explains many other things about our universe.

What if god created them at the same time but far away?

In the bible a day is 1000 yrs.

Even then million light years away is more then 7000yrs. so that wouldnt explain it though.

) "the angels and the spirit ascend unto Him in a day, the measure of which was fifty thousand years." 70:4

This verse refers to the ascent of angels and the spirit (meant to be Gabriel) back to heaven after settling all matters of life in the universe.

The verse clearly said a day that "was" and not a day that 'is', which clearly indicates that that day was in the past (50,000 years ago).

2) "…a day relative to your God is equivalent to a thousand years of your count." 22:47

With a few simple equations:

If 1 day (for God) = 1000 years (for man)

1 year (for God) = 1000 x 365 (for man)

= 365,000 years

50,000 years (for God) = 365,000 x 50,000 (for man)

= 18.25 billion!

The 50,000 years mentioned in verse 1 are meant to be of God's years and not of man. This is because man was not mentioned at all in that verse, and more importantly because the subject of the verse (creation of the universe) is obviously a matter executed by God and not by man and, so, its description must also be as related to God and not to man.

This becomes evident when we compare this verse to other verses that clearly speak of years as related to man's count, like the verse:

"…on a day, the measure of which was a thousand years of your count." 32:5

When G-d made the world, he made a 6 billion (or whatever) year old universe, so he made the light from these stars coming, and he made fossils, and old rocks, and cave paintings, etc.

Answer can be given with reference to the Holy Quran. In Quran Allah says that We created the world in 7 days. and another place in Quran Allah Says that for me one day is equal to 50000 days and much more. How much more? Only Allah knows. it may be equal to fifty thousand days or fifty lakh days. If you calculate this figure to 7 you will know your answer. Hope you got the answer.
