I have a son of 13 (14 in October) & a son of 10. On a school night my 13 year old goes to bed at 10.30pm & my 10 year old goes to bed at 9.30. They both tell me that there friends get to stay up later. My question is, do you think I should revise their bed times.

They sound like quite resonable bed times, and I would be very surprized if any of their friends get to stay up later at all, they would of course tell you that. Maybe let them stay up later at the weekend to watch a movie or go to friends houses.
The ting you really need to pay attention to is them, do you feel that they would be able for later bed times, or will you suffer due to crankniess, tiredness etc. as a result.

I think u should talk to them to let them know the importance of sleep.
The fact that their friends stay up later, does not mean that they should.
At that age children need more sleep than adults for they are right in the middle of puberty and growing up so just talk to them.
I am 13 years old and I my Mom almost had the same problem with me when I was 10 and then she just talked to me and made me read some articles about sleep. Then soon I started going to sleep on my own at a correct time and stopped comparing my friends to myself.
Of course during the holidays I can go to bed very late because I know tht I will recover my sleep and I can wake up at watever time I like but during skool time it is very important for me to go bed at a reasonable bed time so that I can perform better at skool!

Tell ur children that that u are doing it for they're health not just do make them feel bad.
Try it. It will work.
Godd Luck

Well I'm a parent of 3 teens. On school nights they go to bed at 9 pm and on Friday nights & Saturday nights they go to bed around 10: 30 or 11: 00 pm. Those times are so good to have.

Yes i do the 10 year old bed at say about 9 and then 13 year old 9.30 if they fight with u over remember ur the parent not them plus u need time for urself as at the moment it seems to me that u aint getting it at all.I f they say but he satys up later then me put thm both to bed at the same time let them watch tv for half and hour then it goes off.Remamber not every parent is the same but that is what i would do as u need time for urself to unwind and relax and u cant do that as one of them is up until 10.30.Plus u might find that they will agree to it as its better for them to me more alert at school.Well good luck and let me no how it goes

I think the times are very reasonable. My 7 year old niece goes to bed at 7.30, or 8 at the latest. Kids need their sleep. I personally go to be between 10 and 11 during the week!! I need my sleep

Stick to your guns. The times are fine, albeit a bit on the late side. The younger should be up at 9 and the elder at 10 so they are getting a bonus as it is. Their friends will always be 'getting away with everything' according to them. Most likely they are actually in bed at 9 and just having them on.

The experts are saying that our teens aren't getting enough sleep. My 14 yr old goes to bed at 9:30 and has a 1/2 hr. to read and calm his mind before bed. But here is some additional info on these sites that may help you make an informed decision on this matter.

I hope this helps you, good luck, I know what it's like hearing about what every other parent lets their kids do. My answer to my son is " I'm not responsible for all those kids I'm responsible for you." :)

I had to be in bed at 9:30 on a school night and 10:30pm on a weekend night, this was till i reached 16. It didn't do me any harm and it's best for learning or hard working people.

My daughter same age as your eldest is in bed by 9.00 lights out at 9.30. We are up at 6.30. My youngest is 7 and goes to bed 7.30 lights out at 8.00.
children need sleep, especially teenagers. My children have a spring in there step. I put it down to them getting enough sleep.
And routine.
Yes revise bed times, to an hour earlier for both. You will see a difference.
good luck

Your kids could tell you the moon is bright blue if they thought they could get something out of you!!!!!
YOU are the parent and YOU set the boundaries.
10:30 on a school night is quite late anyway and if you do any revising, it should be for the opposite reason.
