The bible said something like stoning disobedient children to death, he's the proof:

http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/says_about/children.html

What do YOU think about this, it's seems to contradict that the christian God is benevolent, doesn't it? Would you do that to your kids?

Hmm, it seems like men keeps on "revising" the bible to keep the gullible people enslaved to it's beliefs, right?

From the quotes you use, yes. However, in reality the Christian Bible is more of the New Testament, which is Christ's teaching, and there he teaches forgiveness rather then the old eye for an eye, which is why the Jewish people did not accept him. The Old Testament was kept so as to show Christ as the savior they had been looking for, however it is always the Old Testament that is used when quoting harsh behavior towards others.

The passages from leviticus, deuteronomy, and exodus are referring to older children as they talk about being drunkards. It is the old testament and the old law. However, I do see and understand your question of benevolence. You have to understand that these laws were a sort of "set up" to show us how God sees us and our actions and the consequenses for those actions. These laws let everyone know how it would be to try and make it to heaven on your own. God will judge us all one day according to His law (the 10 commandments) and we will all be guilty and deserve death. Which is what the stoning was to show in the old law. A sort of "taste" of hell. Just one more reason to thank God that He sent Jesus. So that we don't have to try and make it there on our own. It would be impossible. There is a consequence to our sin, and that consequence is death (Hell). However, God says that a payment needs to made, a fine so to speak, and it usually has to do with blood. So, as we stand before God, guilty, Jesus comes in and pays the fine with his own blood. All you have to do is accept it. Accept that he is the son of God, he died for our sins, and was resurrected.

The bible says to disapline a child who disobeys (as all children do sometimes)
The bible says to respect and honor your mother and father
if a child is constantly disrespecting their parents (a thing that was unheard of in those ancient bible times, but is unfortuneatly so common these days) than that child should be put to death because he is deliberatly going against Gods word, over and over again!

What are you trying to get at?
The old Israelites had these laws and they were commanded by God. Why? Ask Him?

Well it's not a law anymore you know.
because the Church as you say has "tampered" with the bible and has power over revelation and it's interpretation.
By the church I mean the catholic church, the biggest there is.
By reason of numbers: 1 billion catholics can't be wrong.

that bit was probably in the old testament. we are now under the new covenant. basically the stoning thing is an older law which applied to society at that time but is not appropriate now. christianity is about forgiveness and a later final judgment, not about stoning kids!!

First off, you must understand space-time-locale context.

Not all things were meant for all people for all time.

Perfect examples:
* Gentiles (non-Jews) of that time were not expected to keep the 10 commandments, while converted Gentiles were. (does not apply to all locations)
* Only the decendants of Levi were permitted to enter the Temple, whereas no other Jew or Gentile could. (does not apply to all people)
* While the Hebrews were in the desert, only those bitten by snakes, were permitted to look upon the brazen serpent (not all people, not all times, not all locations).

And as such, the same applies to the stoning of children. Israel was meant to be a people seperate unto God. He had special purposes for them, most importantly, the birth of the Messiah was to come from their lineage.

A rebellious child that's left alone would be more likely to commit sin, cause misery to his parents (not to mention to those in the city he lived in...), bring in idolatry to Israel, cause his family to fall into idolatry, marry a Gentile (again, bringing in idolatry), and numerous other miseries.

Remember, God's ultimate purposes for Israel was 1.) To show they were God's chosen people, and 2.) let the Messiah be born through them.

It would not show that they were blessed by God, if they acted in the same sinful ways as the Gentiles did, and so it was ordained that stubborn iniquitous ways would have no place in Israel... those who did so were stoned to death.

On top of that, numerous family lines would be discounted as being eligable for having the Messiah born of their bloodline because of their unrighteousness.

Now that the Messiah was born as prophecied, all laws were fulfilled... that is, to say, we are not bound to those laws. Instead, we are bound by the two Commandments Jesus gave us: Love God with all your heart, mind, and strength, and Love your neighbor as you love yourself (which are, mind you, a condensing of the Ten Commandments. If we fulfill those two laws, then all 613 others are satisfied as well). We are also bound by the Holy Spirit, who guides us.

There is no contradiction there. It is simply that it applied to one people, for one time, in one location.

Modern example:
In Ohio, if you ignore an orator on Decoration day to such an extent as to publicly play croquet or pitch horseshoes within one mile of the speaker's stand, you can be fined $25.

1.) It does not apply to all people. Only to those within a mile of an orator.
2.) It does not apply to all times. Only on Decoration day.
3.) It does not apply to all locations. Only in Ohio.

I do not know the purpose of that law. I don't know why only croquet and horseshoes are singled out above tiddlywinks or lawn darts. But, at one time, it had its purpose, and may or may not still apply today. My lack of knowledge about it does not make it contradictory to other, more commonly known, laws. *I* simply don't have all the knowledge about it. Perhaps if I did, I would understand it better.

So, too, with the purposes of all the necessary violence in the OT. It is not that God has changed, or has contradicted Himself. It is that you haven't learned all there is to know about the Bible, and in this case, how important having a God-fearing lineage was for Jesus Christ to have fulfilled prophecy upon His birth.

And as to *us* doing it... Well, Jesus said, "Let he without sin be the first to cast the stone," and just as He did not cast a stone, neither shall we.

No one knows whats in the mind of GOD.

HE only gave us some teachings (in the Bible as you reference it), as to what HE wanted of us at each time period in our lives.

There was times when the LORD told the Isrealites to wipe out whole villages! (Mainly because they were sinners and didnt want them to corrupt the Isrealites, and they didnt follow instructions then, either!)...

So, what the FATHER, our GOD does, because we are sinners, is up to HIM.

But, HE did give us a way to get Salvation so that we could be "forgiven" of our sins...

Please read the rest of the Bible where it tells you about JESUS CHRIST and HIS love for us, as our Saviour... And that the FATHER, our LORD GOD, gave us a chance to come to HIM, through HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST!

Its quite awe inspiring!

I wish you well..

Jesse
