Why do you want to censor the truth? Could it be that your religion cannot bear the light of reason?

The question of heaven and hell depends on the existence of some part of a human being that can survive our physical death - a concept generally referred to as a 'soul'.

What exactly do you think a soul is? What properties does it have? What part of 'you' resides in the soul?

If it's postulated that consciousness, or awareness, or sense of self resides in the soul, it's difficult to see how this can be reconciled with the complete oblivion which accompanies general anaesthesia. How could a straightforward chemical, injected into the bloodstream, anaesthetise a soul so that it effectively ceases to exist during this time? If consciousness, in the form of a soul, were some kind of supernatural faculty, it would seem implausible that it could be completely disabled by a chemical.

How about some of the other things which we regard as essential parts of what makes a person what they are? How about love, compassion, reason, empathy, memory, conscious thought, character, 'spirituality' and so on? Well, there is really no plausible doubt that all these things are properties of the physical brain - We can alter all of these properties very simply with alcohol or other drugs, and observe how they change in people who have suffered significant brain damage. Previously placid people become uncontrollably violent, intelligent people become imbeciles, and so on. Stimulate the brain artificially, and the subject reports corresponding mental activity, e.g. 'religious experiences'. We can see from brain research that all these things - thought, emotion, sensation, character traits and so on - are correlated with activity in the brain, and some things can be identified with specific areas of the brain.

So, if all these faculties and characteristics of what we regard as the 'person' reside in the physical brain, as seems to be undeniably the case, and they all cease when the person dies, then what is left to be attributed to a 'soul'? As far as I can ascertain: Nothing. If there is no part of us that can continue after death, then there is no 'afterlife'... and if there is no afterlife, then most of religion is null and void.

I dont know if there is a place called heaven or not.
What I know though is the following: A non christian will not go to the kingdom of god.
Now many retarded fundamentalist americans say that you will burn in hell, which is not the case, god is not a dictator but a perfect being. And perfect beings do not treat their creations like that. As a non christian (I should say non believer actually because we cant say which religion is actually closer to god) someone would go to a different place, good or bad depending on his behaviour during his life time.
Even the Orthodox Christian church which is considered quite fundamental never condemns people to hell for not believing. Imagine how retarded americans can be, believing in heretic churches still with the 18th century mentality....

devoted christian, I think you mean fundamentalist, don't you? however, being a christian who doesn't believe inorganized religions, i will answer you anyway. Anyone who lives a good life, and strives to be morally correct, and follow the aws of the society he lives in can get to heaven as easily as any christian, more so than some of the bible-thumping fools who think their specific group has the only available boat across the river styx

good question.. but...

There's different ideas regarding this, and 'good' Chrisitians have taken either point of view. The first view is that for those that have never heard the 'good news' (gospel) those folks will be judged based on the amount of 'light' they have received and recognizing the one and true God based on nature.

The 2nd idea is that we're commanded to share the gospel, -since how can they be saved unless they hear and receive?

But under either concept, - if you hear and REJECT the gospel of the true Jesus Christ, - then you're pretty much in DEEP trouble !

Yes it's possible according to the chatholic church.
Criteria: sincere search for the truth, following your conscience and so on, but all are actually saved via the church and Jesus but some just don't know that.

We can never be saved because of what we do; we can only be saved because of what Jesus Christ has already done for us. Let me explain.

Our greatest problem can be put in one word: sin. Sin cuts us off from God, and sin also keeps us out of heaven. But how can we get rid of our sins? We can't erase them or cause them to disappear by ourselves; we don't have the power. The only way we can get rid of our sins is for someone to come along and take them away for us.

And that is exactly what Jesus Christ did for us. We are weighed down by the burden of our sins—but Jesus took that burden upon Himself when He died on the cross for us. To put it another way, He took the punishment we deserve when He went to the cross in our place. The Bible says, "For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God" (1 Peter 3:18).

What must you do? Simply believe that Christ has taken away your sins, and then receive Him into your heart and life. The Bible's promise is for you: "To all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God" (John 1:12). Become God's child today by asking Christ to come into your life.

I hope so, because i think eternity in fire and brimstones is sick and demented. I am a christian and I hope that this will not be the death of non believers. PS i hope that my point of view doesnt give me a ticket to the fire and brimstones.
